POSITION OVERVIEW
A Landscape Team Technician is an experienced landscaping team member working under the supervision of a Team Leader. The position assists the Team Leader by providing experienced help to the job and has the capability to perform most landscape related tasks at a basic to advanced level. The Landscape Team Technician is able to operate a variety of equipment and has a working knowledge of horticultural practices.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Reviewing job notes for clear understanding of scope of work to be performed on daily basis
  2. Read, measure, and interpret landscape plans
  3. Working knowledge and understanding of pesticides used
  4. Mix and apply various pesticides using proper PPE and application techniques
  5. Perform the following landscape services:
  • Landscape bed installation and maintenance
  • Pruning: horticulturally correct tree/shrub/perennial pruning and dead heading
  • Plant health: identify, diagnose, and treat plant health issues regarding diseases and insects
  • Irrigation: proper installation and minor irrigation repairs
  • Lighting: proper installation of low-voltage lighting systems, repair and replacement of lighting system components
  • Drainage: installation of drainage pipe, drain boxes, dry creek beds, and swales
  • Grading: use machinery, hand tools, and grade measuring tools to properly contour, shape, and fine grade soil to achieve desired look and function
  • Watering: new install plant and turf watering
  • Plant installation: plant identification, bed preparation, proper plant installation, layout, care and maintenance
  • Spring clean-ups: bed cleanout, bed edging, pre-emergent, plant fertilization, and mulch installation
  • Stepping stones and steps: installation using natural stone
  • Edging: installation of metal and cobblestone edging
  • Utilities: identify utility markings
  • Blowing: using handheld or backpack blower to blow off all hard surfaces
  • Snow removal
  • Any other tasks necessary.
  1. Operates small and medium duty tools and equipment to include but not limited to: compact track loaders, track loader, pressure washer, hedge trimmers, backpack blowers, bed edgers, re-definers, rototiller, pole saw, string trimmer, ladder, backpack sprayer, dump trailer/bed, mulching trailer, wheel loader, zip level, tape measure, cordless & hammer drill, sawzall, circular saw, voltage meter, plumb bob, level, gas/electric water pumps
  2. Identifies enhancement ideas to improve client property and reports to team leader
  3. Learns and has a working knowledge of all properties, responsibilities and knows limits of work.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Time will be spent in an outdoor environment with limited ability to control noise, airborne contaminants, and temperature. Be able to lift 50 pounds regularly.
The team member is expected to work the assigned hours at Southern Landscape Group from Monday through Friday as well as weekends & overtime as dictated by seasonal needs. This is an hourly wage position with a normally expected workday of 7:00 AM until 5:00 PM.

REQUIREMENTS
  • A high school degree or GED is required as well as two years of documented experience in the green industry
  • Must have great verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to use Apple technology for time tracking and job management
  • Must have great analytical problem solving and decision making ability
  • Must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate with clients and professionals
  • Ability to use Google translate efficiently to communicate with Spanish speaking workers
  • Assist team leader with training and coaching a team of two or more team members to help develop their skills & ensure team members receive proper training
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient job site and ensures truck/tools/equipment are properly maintained.
  • Ensure daily tasks are completed on schedule and budget to quality standard
  • Responsible for all tools being returned to the shop at the end of a workday and tagging any tools needing repairs
  • Ability to drive truck & trailer combinations
  • Maintain a neat and clean professional appearance
  • Works as a team member throughout Southern Landscape Group with a positive attitude
  • Knows and supports the company's vision, mission, and core values

CERTIFICATIONS
  • Valid Virginia driver's license with insurable driving record
  • VDACS Registered Tech Certification
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
