What does a treasury intern do?

A Treasury Intern assists the treasury department of a company or financial institution with managing cash flow, preparing financial reports, analyzing banking activities, and supporting risk management initiatives. Their tasks often include data entry, reconciling accounts, helping with cash forecasting, and participating in projects related to liquidity management. This role provides valuable exposure to corporate finance operations and helps interns develop analytical and technical skills relevant to treasury and finance careers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a treasury intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Treasury Intern, you need a strong grasp of finance, accounting principles, and quantitative analysis, typically supported by progress toward a finance or business-related degree. Familiarity with Excel, financial modeling software, and treasury management systems is highly beneficial. Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication are standout soft skills in this role. These abilities are crucial for accurately supporting cash management, financial analysis, and reporting tasks critical to a company's financial health.
