Emergency Department Technician - Full-Time Day Shift 7am - 7pm

The Emergency Department (ED) Technician Level I is a versatile caregiver who operates under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. This role involves delivering safe, age-appropriate care to patients by performing various tasks and technical procedures, including:

• Taking vital signs
• Conducting 12-lead EKGs
• Performing bedside blood sugar tests
• Providing superficial wound care
• Administering oral suctioning
• Applying splints
• Instructing patients on safe ambulation with crutches

It is essential to understand and apply aseptic techniques when necessary, including sterile tray preparation, dressing applications, and phlebotomy. The technician must also be capable of operating and monitoring cardiac devices to identify arrhythmias (specific to the Kennestone ED) and pulse oximetry monitors. Familiarity with all specialty instruments and trays, including trauma resuscitation equipment and ENT trays, is required. Responsibilities also include transporting patients, unit supplies, equipment, and medications, ensuring that the patient care area is well-stocked with necessary supplies. The technician will monitor patients in restraint or seclusion and document their observations, along with performing other duties as needed to facilitate patient care.

Deliver safe, age-appropriate patient care by:

• Obtaining and documenting vital signs; alerting the nurse to any abnormalities.
• Performing 12-lead EKGs and presenting them to the ED physician.
• Conducting bedside blood sugar tests; notifying the nurse of abnormal results.
• Measuring and applying extremity splints as directed by the nurse or physician.
• Instructing patients on safe crutch ambulation techniques, ensuring they can demonstrate back.
• Administering oral suctioning and providing superficial wound care.

Execute procedures using aseptic techniques, including:

• Sterile tray preparation
• Dressing application
• Phlebotomy

Act as a Telesitter Facility Liaison by:

• Tracking, delivering, maintaining, and retrieving telesitter carts.
• Troubleshooting connectivity issues and submitting IT tickets as needed.
• Conducting safe room guideline checks at initiation and during every hand-off.
• Performing environmental rounds to ensure adherence to safety guidelines.
• Responding to remote telesitter escalations for face-to-face interventions.
• Notifying the Nurse or Charge Nurse when face-to-face redirection is necessary.

Transport patients, supplies, equipment, and medications while ensuring safety through proper body mechanics. Monitor patients in restraint or seclusion according to policy, documenting observations and notifying the nurse of any abnormal findings. Observe cardiac monitors to identify arrhythmias, communicate findings to the registered professional, and maintain cleanliness of monitors and pumps in the monitoring room. Ensure that the patient care area is adequately stocked and perform additional assigned duties while adhering to all organizational policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

• High School Diploma or GED

All certifications must be obtained upon hire unless specified otherwise.

• BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - American Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor

Experience is required.

Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) are essential. Proficiency in using desktop computers is required. A willingness to be a team player and self-starter is necessary. Ability to accurately obtain vital signs using manual methods is also required.
