Traveling Rv information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Traveling RV Technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Traveling RV Technician, you need strong mechanical and electrical repair skills, a solid understanding of RV systems, and typically a high school diploma or vocational training. Familiarity with diagnostic tools, RV-specific software, and industry certifications such as the RVDA/RVIA certification are highly valued. Excellent problem-solving, customer service, and time management skills make a technician stand out in this mobile role. These competencies ensure safe, high-quality repairs and customer satisfaction while working independently in diverse environments.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working as RV Technicians who travel to different locations?

Traveling RV Technicians often encounter challenges such as adapting to diverse work environments, managing unpredictable schedules, and troubleshooting a wide variety of RV models. Since each assignment may occur at a different site, technicians must be flexible and resourceful, often working independently with limited access to parts or tools. Collaboration with RV owners and coordination with other service professionals are key aspects, requiring strong communication skills and the ability to problem-solve in real time. This dynamic role offers the opportunity to develop expertise across many RV systems and build strong customer relationships.

What are Traveling RV jobs?

Traveling RV jobs are positions that allow individuals to work remotely or while on the road, typically living and traveling in a recreational vehicle (RV). These jobs can include remote work in fields like technology, writing, customer service, or seasonal work such as campground hosting, tour guiding, or working at national parks. Many people choose traveling RV jobs for the flexibility and opportunity to explore different places while earning an income. The lifestyle requires adaptability, self-motivation, and access to reliable internet for most remote positions. It is a popular choice among digital nomads, retirees, and those seeking adventure.

Job description

Requisition ID: 26746
Sometimes, rebellions start small. Twenty years ago, our company opened its doors with a focus on building heavy-duty products for the motorsports industry, and the Renegade RV name was born the very day we decided to set up a display outside a members-only industry show. That passion to do things differently, rebelling against the status quo, has shaped Renegade into a luxury motorhome legend. Like you, we're renegades, determined to carve our own path, and fueled by an obsession for extreme quality. You'll find we take a proprietary approach to motorhome construction because everything we build is made to own the roads you travel.

Renegade RV is part of Terex Corporation, a global designer and manufacturer of specialized vehicles and equipment, including fire and emergency vehicles, waste and recycling equipment, RV's, and machinery supporting construction, utilities, and infrastructure. With operations across the U.S. and globally, we are committed to safety, innovation, and quality while building products our customers depend on every day.

Job Summary:

A Senior Electrical Engineer to lead our electrical team in the design and development of advanced electrical systems for our luxury motor coaches and specialty vehicles. This role is ideal for an engineer who is experienced in solving complex electrical challenges while guiding projects from concept through production.  You will work closely with cross-functional teams including product engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain to deliver robust and scalable electrical systems.

This position will be very involved as part of the New Innovation Development Team and provides the opportunity to influence vehicle platform development, mentor engineers, and drive electronics and electrical innovation in vehicle power and control systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Lead the design, development and innovation of electrical system architectures for luxury motor coaches and specialty vehicles.
  • Define vehicle electrical standards, design practices, and component selection strategies.
  • Develop system-level electrical designs including power distribution, controls, and communication networks.
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies in DC power systems including 12V, 24V, and emerging electrical platforms.
  • vehicle power systems and electrical components.
  • Create and review electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Oversee integration of components such as inverters, battery systems, multiplex controllers, power distribution modules, and lighting systems.
  • Support the development of wiring harness designs and electrical installation strategies.
  • Lead electrical system installation and validation during prototype builds.
  • Define electrical testing strategies and validation criteria.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical system issues during development and production.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure electrical systems are optimized for production.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to electrical system layouts and harness routing.
  • Support new product launches and engineering change implementation.
  • Commit to excellence and high standards.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong experience with electrical CAD or schematic design tools (AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, or similar).
  • Deep knowledge of DC power systems, vehicle electrical architecture, and power distribution including experience with battery systems, inverters, converters, and energy management systems.
  • Familiarity with CAN bus, multiplex systems, or vehicle communication networks preferred.
  • Knowledge of RV manufacturing, design and industry standards.
  • Strong leadership and technical decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage engineering tasks and coordinate cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to engineering excellence.
  • Self-driven mindset with a passion for innovation and product improvement.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work directly with hourly production employees and leadership concerning engineering and manufacturing initiatives and progress updates.
  • Strong work ethic, highly motivated, organized, and self-disciplined.
  • Versatile, flexible, and willing to work with changing priorities.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to stay on task.
  • Solid PC skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, Teams, and Outlook.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent education preferred.
  • Typically requires 4-10 years of related experience.

Work Environment/Conditions:

  • General office environment with work on the plant floor as required.
