Modern Healthcare Solutions is seeking a travel Radiation Therapist for a travel job in Neptune, New Jersey.

Radiation Therapy Technologist

The Radiation Therapy Technologist is responsible for the delivery of ionizing radiation to treat patients in accordance with the Radiation Oncologistโ€™s prescription and simulation instructions. This role involves executing treatment plans with a focus on patient safety, quality assurance, and effective communication.

Essential Job Functions
  • Administer radiation treatments to patients and monitor treatment delivery.
  • Ensure comprehensive documentation is completed accurately.
  • Obtain and evaluate portal images and implement corrective measures as needed.
  • Perform necessary calculations related to treatment.
  • Prepare the treatment room and equipment prior to patient sessions.
  • Inform and instruct patients regarding equipment and procedures.
  • Ensure informed consent is obtained from patients.
  • Transfer and position patients according to treatment requirements.
  • Simulate treatment portals in accordance with the Radiation Oncologistโ€™s instructions.
  • Document precise and legible setup instructions, including treatment distance, field size, and angles.
  • Assess diagnostic studies to evaluate field placement.
  • Prepare and construct immobilization devices as necessary.
  • Place markings or tattoos for setup purposes.
  • Perform calculations for monitor units following procedures set by the Medical Physicist.
  • Construct and mount individualized shielding blocks and lead cut-outs as required.
  • Prepare and apply individualized bolus as needed.
  • Carry out quality assurance procedures for treatment units and simulators as per departmental policies.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment while ensuring adequate supplies are stocked.
  • Monitor equipment operations and report malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
  • Assess and respond to patients' physical conditions and special needs, ensuring they receive educational materials about their treatment.
  • Assist in teaching and training students during their clinical rotations.
  • Lift and move a minimum of 25 lbs., and stand for a minimum of 4 hours a day.
  • Adapt care to meet the diverse needs of patients including age, culture, and communication requirements.
  • Adhere to the standards established in the organizationโ€™s competencies.
Qualifications Required Skills & Experience
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in radiation therapy.
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in radiation therapy is preferred.
Required Hard Skills
  • Experience with True Beam, linear accelerators, and simulators (SIMS).
Required Soft Skills
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Compassionate, empathetic approach to patient care.
  • Respectful and adaptable to various patient needs.
Education & Certification Required Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an approved Radiation Therapy Program.
Required Certifications & Licensure
  • Registered by the ARRT in Radiation Therapy.
  • Current license as required by the state of New Jersey.
Schedule Notes
  • Varied shifts between 5:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
  • This assignment may last from 13 to 24 weeks depending on returning staff availability.
  • No weekend or holiday requirements.
  • No on-call or float responsibilities.
