Marquette, MI sits on the southern shore of Lake Superior, the largest city in Michigan's Upper Peninsula and the healthcare center for a wide, remote region. Deep lake-effect snow and long winters shape travel here, the hardest part of a stay for anyone used to a milder climate. The allied caseload serves that broad UP market through imaging centers and ambulatory surgery centers, with US-41 and M-28 tying the area to Negaunee and Ishpeming to the west. Sawyer Regional Airport, south of town near Gwinn, matters given how far apart everything is up here. Negaunee, Ishpeming, and Gwinn are common places to base for shorter daily drives. Northern Michigan University adds a student crowd. Presque Isle Park, just north, opens onto Lake Superior for a quiet break.
