EMPLOYMENT BEGINS: As soon as possible
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
  • To coordinate assignments and schedules of bus drivers, routes, and vehicles to ensure safe, efficient, and economical transportation services.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Valid Texas Commercial Driver's License (Class B)
  • Texas Education Agency School Bus Driver Certificate

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
  • Effective telephone and communication skills
  • Ability to receive and give verbal instructions effectively
  • Ability to pass alcohol and drug test
  • Proficient map reading skills

EXPERIENCE:
  • Two years' experience as a certified school bus driver

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Manage day to day regular bus routes, assign vehicles to routes, and manage substitute drivers as needed to regular routes.
  • Evaluate routes determined as hazardous for proper classification.
  • Assist with coordination of drivers for extracurricular events/field trips
  • Plan and adjust ridership on bus routes using ridership data.
  • Create route maps and schedule information for the communication department to put the district web site. Send bus schedules to all schools.
  • Create route stops and time logistics using routing system based on district needs.
  • Work with staff, schools and parents as needed to address regular route issues.
  • Manage student transportation eligibility within the district.
  • Assist with afternoon bus accidents and completing required documentation (written and photographic).
  • Support transportation manager with the schedule rider count surveys, research geographic code locations for routes/stops and process mileage statistics for inclusion in annual State reporting of ridership and mileage to obtain funding.
  • Supervise day to day operation of Regular Ed. Drivers, addressing any misconduct of employees implementing policy and procedures and writing reprimands as needed.
  • Assignment of bus drivers, bus routes, vehicles, and substitutes for morning and afternoon routes.
  • Manage day to day regular bus routes, assign vehicles to routes, and manage substitute drivers as needed to regular routes.
  • Evaluate routes determined as hazardous for proper classification.
  • Assist with coordination of drivers for extracurricular events/field trips
  • Assist with or coordinate extracurricular transportation.
  • Prepare data required to plan bus route.
  • Coordinate and schedule all summer school routes.
  • Investigate all accidents.
  • Prepare and update district maps showing areas served by each bus. Distribute maps to schools and within the district as directed.
  • Responsible of creating all routes and daily monitoring of the routes.
  • Write, schedule, and keep regular routes up-to-date in computer.
  • Maintain good public relations with school personnel, students and parents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to manipulate driver and vehicle schedules in order to complete all routes.
  • Using common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Writing simple correspondence and effectively presenting information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Responding to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Reading and interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Frequently meeting deadlines with severe time constraints.
  • Defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.

Physical demands/environmental factors:
  • Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer.
  • Sitting continuously.
  • Reaching with hands and arms and frequently repeating the same hand, arm or finger motion.
  • Lifting / moving up to 25 pounds such as supplies of copier paper.
  • Bending or twisting at the neck and trunk continuously
