Operations Coordinator of TransportationJOB STATUS: OPEN POSTING DATE: 08/31/2026 CLOSING DATE: 09/14/2026 04:00 PM POSTING NUMBER: 055009 LOCATION: Transportation - South - 911 POSITION TITLE: Operations Coordinator of Transportation
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Assist the Director of Transportation and Assistant Director of Transportation with the supervision of the transportation department by ensuring a safe and efficient operation.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Provide support to the Director and Assistant Director in transportation operations.
  2. Oversee budgeting and the requisition, distribution, and accounting of departmental resources and fixed assets.
  3. Supervise and oversee routing and scheduling personnel to ensure efficient and effective route services in accordance with District procedures.
  4. Supervise and direct safety and training personnel in the development and implementation of efficient training procedures.
  5. Promote the development and/or improvement of safety, reliability, and customer service within the department.
  6. Interview and make recommendations for employment/dismissal of all Transportation Department employees.
  7. Responsible for evaluations and discipline of employees.
  8. Communicate transportation policies and procedures to campus staff to ensure compliance, clarity, and consistent implementation, while addressing questions and concerns.
  9. Lead, train, and motivate employees and maintain good morale amongst employees.
  10. Provide accurate and timely information for School Transportation Route Services and Operations reports.
  11. Oversee payroll staff to ensure transportation employees are compensated accurately, efficiently and in a timely manner.
  12. Oversee the development and coordination of departmental objectives, special projects, plans, and improvement initiatives.
  13. Oversee the development and implementation of departmental memorandums, manuals, and publications documenting department District and department policies, practices and procedures.
  14. Facilitate and supervise the drug and alcohol-testing program for the assigned transportation center.
  15. Manage and coordinate multiple divisions within the department through department managers/supervisors and lead trainer.
  16. Provide school bus route coverage when needed.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE:
  • 5 years' experience in bus transportation
  • 3 years' experience in personnel management
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Texas Pupil Transportation Official Certification (must obtain within one calendar year of the date of hire)
  • Valid Class B Texas Commercial driver's license with Passenger & School Bus Endorsements (must obtain within 90 days of employment)
  • Current and valid Texas School Bus Driver Safety Training Certification (must be able to obtain within 90 days of employment)

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Ability to communicate effectively and supervise personnel
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and computer skills
  • Working knowledge of budgeting and computerized routing systems
  • Knowledge of campus procedures and ability to collaborate with principals and staff
  • Knowledge of Texas Education Agency (TEA) reporting requirements and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations related to school bus transportation
  • Must pass randomly administered drug and alcohol tests
  • Ability to work effectively with students and parents
