What is a transportation risk specialist?

Transportation Risk Specialists are professionals who identify, assess, and manage risks associated with the transportation of goods and people. They work to ensure compliance with safety regulations, mitigate risks related to accidents, theft, or environmental hazards, and develop strategies to minimize potential disruptions in the supply chain. Their responsibilities often include analyzing data, conducting risk assessments, and collaborating with logistics teams to improve safety and efficiency. These specialists play a crucial role in maintaining the smooth and secure operation of transportation systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a transportation risk specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Transportation Risk Specialist, you need expertise in risk assessment, regulatory compliance, and logistics management, often supported by a degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field. Familiarity with risk management software, transportation management systems (TMS), and relevant certifications like Certified Risk Manager (CRM) are commonly required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you identify risks and collaborate with stakeholders. These skills are crucial for ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant transportation operations while minimizing financial and reputational risks.

What are some common challenges faced by transportation risk specialists, and how can they be addressed?

Transportation Risk Specialists often encounter challenges such as rapidly changing regulations, unexpected supply chain disruptions, and the need to assess complex risk scenarios across various modes of transportation. Job description

Who We Are

Arrive Logistics is a leading transportation and technology company in North America with plans to grow significantly year over year. Our success is a testament to our remarkable team and what we're building together. We’re committed to providing employees with a meaningful work experience and have established an award-winning culture that supports personal and career development in a fun, casual, and collaborative environment.

Who We Want

We are seeking an analytical and proactive Risk Specialist to join our Risk department. This individual will support the team by identifying, assessing, and mitigating a spectrum of risks across the organization. The Risk Specialist will perform routine audits and help to refine processes to ensure adherence to risk standards and best practices.

What You'll Do

Risk Assessment & Compliance Monitoring
  • Freight & Carrier Auditing: Evaluate freight shipments and carrier profiles to ensure full compliance with internal policies, customer SOPs, and industry regulations.
  • Proactive Risk Shielding: Leverage proprietary, real-time monitoring tools and perform routine audits (e.g., commodity, decertification) to flag at-risk freight and protect the organization from non-compliant carriers.
  • High-Value/High-Risk (HVHR) Carrier Vetting: Source, review, and process carriers within Arrive’s network for specialty certifications and badging, communicating directly with carriers via phone and email.
  • Commodity Trend Analysis: Continuously assess freight commodities alongside leadership to adapt risk classifications in response to shifting industry trends.
Operational Support & Incident Management
  • Escalation Resolution: Manage the load escalation workflow within designated SLAs, adhering to team SOPs and best practices.
  • In-Transit Risk Mitigation: Partner directly with the tracking and operations teams to resolve emerging risks for active loads in transit.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct regular quality control reviews to ensure risk mitigation procedures are consistently followed across the board.
Process Optimization & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • SOP Development: Formulate, refine, and document SOPs for new and existing risk workflows to streamline operations without compromising quality.
  • Interdepartmental Alignment: Collaborate with Sales, Business Development, and Operations teams to clarify risk policies, align on customer-specific requirements, and promote company-wide risk awareness.
  • Workflow Automation & Reporting: Execute key reporting tasks and utilize Jira to update workflows, create templates, and implement basic process automations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent skills and experience.
  • 3+ years experience in brokerage transportation.
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and G-Suite.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-resolution skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
  • Strong logical reasoning skills, detail-oriented, with strong follow-through.
  • Excellent customer service skills via phone and email.
The Perks of Working With Us
  • Take advantage of our comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and supplemental coverage.
  • Invest in your future with our matching 401(k) program.
  • Build relationships and find your home at Arrive through our Employee Resource Groups.
  • Enjoy office wide engagement activities, team events, happy hours and more!
  • Leave the suit and tie at home; our dress code is casual.
  • Work in the booming city of Austin, TX – we are in a convenient location close to the airport and downtown.
  • Park your car for free on site!
  • Start your morning with a specialty drink from our fully stocked coffee bar, Broker’s Brew.
  • Sweat it out with the team at our onsite gym.
  • Maximize your wellness with free counseling sessions through our Employee Assistance Program

  • Receive 100% paid parental leave when you become a new parent.

Your Arrive Experience
When we say “award-winning culture,” we mean it. We’ve been recognized as a top workplace by Inc. Fast Company, Fortune, and earned Top Workplaces and Great Place to Work, to name a few. We intend on topping many more of those lists in the years to come, but we’re not in it for the trophies. We’re committed to culture because it keeps us connected to each other and invested in our shared success while having a blast along the way. Our employee-founded resource groups create communities within Arrive’s walls, including Women in Logistics, Emerging Professionals, Prisms, Black Logistics Group, Salute and Unidos.
