How much do transportation modeler jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 21, 2026, the average yearly pay for transportation modeler in the United States is $97,166.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $90,000.00 and $105,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is the highest paid transportation job?

The highest paid transportation jobs are often executive roles such as Chief Transportation Officer or Director of Transportation, which can earn six-figure salaries. Senior roles in logistics management, supply chain leadership, or specialized consulting also tend to have high compensation, especially with extensive experience and advanced certifications.

What do transport modellers do?

Transport modellers analyze transportation systems and develop models to predict traffic flow, travel demand, and infrastructure needs. They use data analysis, geographic information systems (GIS), and modeling software to support transportation planning and decision-making.

What is a Transportation Modeler job?

A Transportation Modeler analyzes and predicts transportation system performance using data, simulation software, and mathematical models. They assess traffic flow, public transit efficiency, and the impact of infrastructure projects to support urban planning and policy decisions. Their work helps optimize transportation networks, reduce congestion, and improve mobility. Key skills include proficiency in GIS, statistical analysis, and transportation modeling software like VISUM, CUBE, or TransCAD.

What jobs make $3,000 a day?

Transportation Modelers typically do not earn $3,000 a day; such high daily earnings are more common in executive, consulting, or specialized professional roles like senior engineers or financial traders. These positions often require advanced skills, certifications, and extensive experience. Most jobs with daily rates of $3,000 or more are in high-level consulting, investment banking, or executive management rather than transportation modeling.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Transportation Modeler position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Transportation Modeler, you need a strong background in transportation engineering, mathematics, and data analysis, often supported by a degree in civil engineering, urban planning, or a related field. Experience with modeling software such as TransCAD, VISSIM, or CUBE, along with knowledge of GIS and possibly certification in transportation planning, is highly valuable. Strong analytical thinking, effective communication, and project management skills help set top candidates apart. These abilities are crucial for creating accurate models, effectively conveying findings, and delivering actionable insights in collaborative, deadline-driven environments.

Is a transport planner a stressful job?

A transportation modeler may experience stress due to tight deadlines, complex data analysis, and the need for accuracy in planning and modeling transportation systems. The job often requires strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and proficiency with modeling tools, which can contribute to work-related pressure.

What types of projects do Transportation Modelers typically work on, and what does a typical day look like?

Transportation Modelers often work on projects that involve analyzing current transportation systems, forecasting travel demand, evaluating the impact of new infrastructure, and assisting with urban planning initiatives. A typical day may include collecting and processing data, running simulations in specialized software, meeting with project teams or stakeholders, and preparing reports or presentations. They often collaborate closely with engineers, urban planners, and government agencies to ensure modeling outputs align with policy goals and practical constraints. The work is both analytical and collaborative, providing opportunities to contribute directly to transportation solutions that shape communities. This balance of technical work and teamwork makes the role both challenging and rewarding.

Job description

Job Title: Revit Modeler
Job Description

Join a growing Building Information Modeling (BIM) team as a Revit Modeler, where you will create detailed 3D models of electrical systems for new and existing commercial buildings. You will support large and complex projects, such as hospitals and power plants, by coordinating electrical designs with other building systems and producing accurate pre-fabrication drawings for field installation. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a department that is actively expanding and investing in advanced BIM capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop accurate and detailed 3D BIM models of electrical systems for new and existing commercial buildings using Revit.
  • Coordinate electrical system models with Architectural, Structural, HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems to ensure fully integrated designs.
  • Participate in weekly coordination meetings with other disciplines to resolve clashes and design conflicts within the BIM environment.
  • Prepare pre-fabrication drawings and layouts for field installation using AutoCAD and Revit, ensuring constructability and clarity for field teams.
  • Support the electrical design process by translating design intent into detailed models and drawings suitable for construction.
  • Collaborate closely with the pre-fabrication department to ensure models and drawings align with fabrication and installation requirements.
  • Apply knowledge of construction practices and electrical design to improve model accuracy and efficiency.
  • Use Navisworks and other modeling tools to review, coordinate, and validate BIM models for constructability and clash detection.
  • Maintain organized digital files and documentation for models, drawings, and coordination updates.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of BIM standards, workflows, and best practices within the department.
  • Work collaboratively with another BIM modeler and project teams to meet deadlines and project milestones.
Essential Skills
  • Proficiency in Revit for 3D modeling of building systems, preferably with a focus on electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for creating detailed drawings and pre-fabrication layouts.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to work efficiently with BIM and CAD software.
  • Experience with Navisworks for model coordination and clash detection.
  • Understanding of construction processes and how electrical systems integrate into commercial building projects.
  • Ability to coordinate models with multiple disciplines, including Architectural, Structural, HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate and organized models and drawings.
  • Effective communication skills to participate in coordination meetings and collaborate with project teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Electrical drafting experience is a plus.
  • Experience working on complex projects such as hospitals, power plants, or other large commercial facilities is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with BIM workflows and standards in an electrical contracting or construction environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a small, growing BIM team and contribute to process improvements.
Work Environment

You will work within a dedicated BIM department that is actively growing and receiving significant investment, providing strong opportunities for professional development and impact. The team currently includes one other BIM modeler and collaborates closely with the pre-fabrication department and field installation teams. Projects include large and complex facilities such as hospitals, power plants, and other commercial buildings, offering exposure to sophisticated electrical systems and multidisciplinary coordination. The organization emphasizes long-term stability and employee ownership culture, with a strong history and a commitment to expanding its BIM capabilities. The role offers the ability to accrue 5 days of paid time off and includes 6 paid federal holidays, supporting a healthy work-life balance.
