Job description

About ITT:
ITT Inc. (NYSE: ITT) is a diversified global leading manufacturer of highly engineered critical components and customized technology solutions serving the flow, aerospace and defense, transportation, industrial, and energy markets. Through operational execution, innovation, and disciplined capital deployment, including strategic acquisitions such as SPX FLOW, ITT partners with its customers to deliver enduring solutions to the key industries that underpin our modern way of life.
Headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut, ITT has a market cap of roughly $20 billion and employs more than 15,000 people across 40 countries and serves customers in approximately 125 countries. Following the acquisition of SPX FLOW, the company is expected to generate $5.4 billion in annual revenue.
Our businesses are organized in three distinct segments, each based around our core engineering DNA:
Flow Technologies: A global leader in, providing a broad portfolio of pumps, valves, mixing and agitation equipment, heat transfer, homogenizers, separation, water and wastewater treatment, and engineered process solutions. Our leading brands include the iconic Goulds Pumps (with more than 175 years of history), Anhydro, APV, Bornemann, Bran+Luebbe, C'treat, Engineered Valves, Gerstenberg Schrรถder, Habonim, Johnson Pump, Lightnin, Philadelphia, Plenty, PRO Cast, Rheinhรผtte, Seital Separation, Stelzer, Svanehรธj, Tigerholm, Uutechnic, VIDAR, Waukesha Cherry-Burrell.
Motion Technologies: A global leader in brake pads (ICE and electrified brake pads) and shock absorbers (energy absorption solutions) for transportation applications. Our leading brands include Friction Technologies, KONI and Axtone.
Connect and Control Technologies: A leader in critical applications for the aerospace, defense and industrial markets, including harsh environment connectors and control components. Our leading brands include ITT Cannon, Enidine, Aerospace Controls and kSARIA.
Position Summary
ITT is seeking a Power Electronics Engineer for VIDAR, a breakthrough in industrial motors. VIDAR is a patented motor with embedded variable speed intelligence built for harsh industrial environments. For decades, variable speed drives have been bulky, expensive, and hard to install, which stalled adoption at just 15 percent of rotating equipment. VIDAR changes that. It installs as easily as replacing a motor, cuts total installed cost by up to 50 percent compared to a VFD, and opens a $6B market with no direct competitor targeting industrial environments.
The Power Electronics Engineer is responsible for the engineering, design and validation of new cutting-edge motor-drive topologies. This position will assist in the development of converter and motor control algorithms development for motor-drives. S/he will coordinate with internal teams, external manufacturing partners, universities, and 3rd party certification agencies to achieve program goals.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Perform system level design and integration of power electronic circuits
  • Design, implement, and troubleshoot control systems for power electronic products such as converters and inverters for motor driven applications
  • Perform PCB (gate driver, gate drive power supply, etc.) design review and test
  • Design, implement, and test advanced digital control algorithms, digital filters and the general control of power electronics systems
  • Create test procedures to verify hardware & firmware designs
  • Ensure products meet safety and agency requirements (ex. UL, IEC)
  • Perform system level simulations to evaluate design tradeoffs, extract power converter and passives losses. Develop simulation models targeted for control design using PLECS and C-code, previous experience with other tools such as MATLAB/Simulink/PSIM/ is desired
  • Support the development and validation of power electronics hardware through embedded software and firmware activities, including implementation of control and modulation strategies
  • Develop embedded C code for real-time control of power converters and motor drives, including algorithm integration and system bring-up
  • Support the design and implementation of FPGA-based control functions using VHDL to support high-speed and deterministic control requirements
  • Develop scripts and tools (e.g., Python) for data acquisition, analysis, and post-processing to support testing and validation activities
  • Interact with customers and project partners relating to program goals
  • Maintain organizational standards of quality and performance
  • Prepare technical reports on results and design decisions
  • Travel < 20%

Position Requirements
  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering (PhD preferred), with specialization in Power Electronics or related fields
