Job Description Summary:
Provides competent and age-specific services for transporting patients between patient rooms, ancillary departments, and other areas within Jackson Madison County General Hospital. They will provide other assigned procedures under the supervision of the department management and licensed personnel while maintaining productivity standards and occupational growth. This position is under the direction of the Manager and Supervisor of Patient Transportation, the Transport Tech is responsible for, but not limited to, the transports of inpatients and outpatients between hospital departments. The employee will be involved in direct and indirect patient care, including patient transfers, patient lifts, and other tasks that promote quality patient satisfaction. The employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Receives and documents complete information regarding patient transport from the patient tracking system and/or dispatcher.
  • Safely transports inpatients and outpatients between hospital departments using wheelchair, stretcher, bed, or escort as appropriate.
  • Performs direct and indirect patient care responsibilities to meet patient needs.
  • Always ensures patient safety by checking patient's armband and chart; using Seatbelts when available; placing guardrails in the upright position at all times during transport; properly transporting oxygen and IV pumps with patients; assisting the patient to and from bed to wheelchair to stretcher.
  • Ensures patient record accompanies the patient.
  • Signs patient on and off the nursing unit when transported.
  • Assumes responsibility for ensuring continued occupational growth.
  • Incorporates age specific principles into job responsibilities and communication skills.
  • Participates in the Quality Improvement Plan.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
  • High school education or equivalency Must complete Job Placement Assessment and Back School as provided by Occupational Rehab Center Minimum of six to eight (6 - 8) hours of classroom training in clinical and patient care.

LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:
  • Certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation within 6 months of employment.
