About our Department: The mission of the City of Huntsville Traffic Engineering Division is to provide for the safe and efficient movement of pedestrians, bicyclists, and motor vehicles through the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of traffic control systems.

Our staff continually works to upgrade and maintain all signs, signals, and pavement markings at all intersections and roadways within the City of Huntsville. Traffic Operations Manager Position Overview: This is managerial, administrative and supervisory work in assisting the Director of Traffic Engineering in the operations and implementation of all work activities of the Traffic Engineering Division's signal, signs and marking staff, including administrative staff. Work involves performing administrative functions, which include financial records management, procurement of materials and equipment, personnel management and management of the division's fleet of light and heavy vehicles.

Work also involves developing the specifications and handling the procurement of all traffic control materials and equipment, including electronic traffic signal controls and specialized heavy motor equipment required for traffic pole erection and overhead traffic sign and signal maintenance. ********DETAILED RESUME MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE JOB APPLICATION*********** Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements: High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or a GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency, with at least fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible experience in traffic engineering, traffic operations, traffic signal systems, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), transportation infrastructure maintenance, construction management, public works operations, or a closely related transportation field, including a minimum of five (5) years of experience in a supervisory, managerial, or project management role overseeing personnel, budgets, projects, or transportation operations; or a bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S

Department of Education with major course work in Business or Public Administration, Civil Engineering or Project Management, or a related field with at least five (5) years' experience in the aforementioned transportation-related areas including a minimum of five (5) years' experience in a supervisory, managerial, or project management role, overseeing personnel, budgets, projects, contracts, or transportation operations. A valid Alabama driver's license. Certification in Signals and Signs from the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) is desirable.

Signals Level 1 & Signs and Markings Level 1 is preferred upon hire but may be obtained within twenty-four (24) months of hire.
