At Ayres, we’re passionate about delivering innovative, community-focused transportation solutions with integrity and excellence. We’re seeking a Transportation Engineering Manager to lead our growing team in Tampa, Florida—a vibrant region full of opportunity and momentum. This is your chance to shape the future of transportation infrastructure in one of Florida’s most dynamic markets.

As a key leader, you’ll guide a team of project managers, engineers, and technical staff while driving strategic growth and building strong client relationships. Your deep understanding of the Tampa Bay area and connections with agencies like FDOT District 7, local municipalities, and private sector clients will be essential to your success.

Join Ayres – a USA TODAY Top Workplace recognized in both 2025 and 2026 – where people-first leadership, collaboration, and professional growth create an environment where great teams do their best work.

On any given day, you’ll:

  • Develop and execute strategic, business, and marketing plans for the Tampa transportation group, with a focus on growth, profitability, and staff development.
  • Lead performance metrics including revenue, backlog, billing, and client satisfaction.
  • Supervise and mentor a high-performing team of engineers, project managers, and technical staff.
  • Represent Ayres in the Tampa community and within professional organizations.
  • Drive business development efforts, leveraging your local network to win new work and expand client relationships.
  • Collaborate with other divisions to foster a unified, efficient, and innovative work environment.
  • Ensure alignment with corporate policies and uphold our commitment to quality and integrity.

Other responsibilities may include:

  • Lead marketing and proposal efforts for FDOT District 7, cities, counties, and private sector clients in the Tampa Bay region.
  • Oversee technical project execution, ensuring quality, compliance, and client satisfaction.
  • Prepare and negotiate contracts, scopes, schedules, and fees with clients and subconsultants.
  • Implement and maintain quality assurance and control procedures across all projects.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience in staff supervision, project management, and client development.
  • Strong presence in the Tampa transportation market with a track record of successful business development.
  • Collaborative leadership style that fosters a supportive, inclusive team culture.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in a consulting or engineering firm.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Desired Skills and Experiences:

  • Registered professional engineer (PE) in Florida.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
  • 15 years of experience in transportation engineering.
  • Well-established existing network of contacts including FDOT connections.

Benefits of being part of the Ayres team:

  • Health, dental, and vision Insurance.
  • Short and long-term disability and life insurance.
  • Employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) and 401K with company match.
  • PTO upon hire, paid holidays including two floating holidays, and a flexible work schedule.
  • Professional development opportunities.
