  • Ensure all animals are handled properly and medical and behavioral concerns are thoroughly communicated upfront to key departments and disease transmission is minimized by following HSSV protocols.
  • Demonstrate an attitude of consideration and courtesy and present a positive HSSV image in all interactions with the public, volunteers, and co-workers as well as staff and volunteers at other partner shelters.
  • Maintain and communicate HSSV values to the public, volunteers, and co-workers.
  • Ensure that HSSV vehicles are kept clean and maintained and ready for transport use.
  • Act as a liaison between partner shelters and HSSV, gaining a deep understanding of their needs and working within HSSV to find ways we can help them beyond transport.
  • Train transport volunteers to go on rescue runs or to help with providing other partner shelter support.
  • Other job duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements
  • Hands on experience with animal handling and reading animal body language.

  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship building skills (with internal and external audiences), including excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working in a fast paced, ever-changing environment.
  • Current driver's license and acceptable driving record for HSSV insurance purposes.
  • Experienced and comfortable in driving large vehicles.
  • Ability to follow directions as well as work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to handle the physical and emotional aspect of work in an animal shelter environment and be able to lift and move animals and objects weighing up to 50 pounds for short distances (as well as control heavy dogs of up to 120 pounds or more when on leash) and humanely restraining animals when necessary.
  • Physical activity with loading, unloading and cleaning vehicles; lifting, bending, twisting, and pushing/pulling will be required.
  • Ability to operate effectively with exposure to animals that may be under socialized, fearful, feral, unruly, and/or aggressive. Frequent exposure to loud noise, odors, and chemicals. Exposure to controlled substances, needles, syringes, and other supplies used to treat animals.
