POSITION SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES:
We are seeking a Senior Accounting Associate - Operating Expenses & Gathering & Transportation to oversee accounting and analysis for the Company's operating expense (LOE) and gathering & transportation (G&T) cost structure. This role owns a portfolio of operational expense accounts that are directly impacted by production activity, field operations, and third-party service arrangements.
This is an analysis-heavy, operations-focused role for a technically strong accountant who enjoys complex data, close interaction with operations teams, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate is motivated to improve visibility into what is driving operating and transportation costs, while modernizing processes through automation, analytics, and technology in a public-company environment.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Own accounting and analytical review of operating expenses (LOE) and gathering & transportation (G&T) costs across multiple assets and entities.
  • Oversee accounting for a broad range of field-driven expenses, including but not limited to:
    • Gathering and transportation fees
    • Compression and treating costs
    • Gas lift
    • Salt water disposal (SWD)
    • Repairs and maintenance
    • Electricity, chemicals, and other production-related costs
  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations related to operational and G&T activity.
  • Perform period-over-period expense analysis, identifying and explaining drivers related to production volumes, contract terms, vendor activity, and operational initiatives.
  • Partner closely with Operations, Field Management, AP, Commercial, and FP&A to ensure accurate capture, classification, and explanation of operating and transportation costs.
  • Provide operationally focused reporting and analysis to improve cost transparency, trend visibility, and decision-making.
  • Support public-company audit requirements, including preparation of audit-quality documentation and explanations for expense balances.
  • Execute and maintain SOX-compliant controls over operating and G&T expense processes.
  • Identify and implement process improvements and automation, leveraging AI tools, Hyperion, BI platforms, ERP systems, and advanced Excel.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
    • 3-6+ years of progressive accounting or analytical experience
    • Strong understanding of operating expense and cost-based accounting concepts
    • Experience analyzing high-volume, field-driven transactions
    • Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capability

    Preferred
    • CPA preferred (or active CPA candidate)
    • Public company and/or public accounting experience
    • Experience in oil & gas, energy, or asset-intensive industries
    • Familiarity with LOE, gathering, compression, and transportation cost structures

Office Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Prolonged periods working at a desk in front of a computer.

Additional Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
