Job description

Location: Flexible / U.S. (preferred proximity to major power markets and an airport)

We are seeking a Transmission & Interconnection Engineer to support the development of utility-scale solar and battery energy storage (BESS) projects. This role will be responsible for evaluating transmission opportunities, managing interconnection strategy, and advancing projects through the regional transmission organization (RTO) interconnection process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform transmission and interconnection screening for prospective solar and BESS projects using the tools NIRA and/or Pearl Street.
  • Analyze network upgrade requirements, congestion risks, deliverability constraints, and project viability through prospecting studies and in-queue study results using the tools NIRA and/or Pearl Street.
  • Develop interconnection strategies and provide technical recommendations to support site selection and project development decisions.
  • Manage projects through the interconnection process with MISO and/or PJM, coordinating with consultants, utilities, and internal stakeholders.
  • Review and interpret feasibility, system impact, and facilities study results, including network upgrade cost and schedule implications.
  • Support negotiation and execution of Large Generator Interconnection Agreements (LGIAs) and related interconnection milestones.
  • Track interconnection queues, regulatory developments, and transmission planning activities affecting project portfolios.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience supporting utility-scale solar and/or BESS development projects.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using NIRA and/or Pearl Street to evaluate transmission capacity, network upgrades, and interconnection opportunities.
  • Experience analyzing prospecting studies and in-queue study results to assess project feasibility and risk.
  • Proven experience managing interconnection processes in MISO and/or PJM through LGIA execution.
  • Strong understanding of transmission planning, network upgrades, and generator interconnection procedures.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills.

This position offers the opportunity to play a key role in advancing a growing portfolio of utility-scale renewable energy projects from early-stage development through interconnection execution.
