What is a translation job?

Translation jobs involve converting written or spoken content from one language to another while preserving the original meaning, tone, and context. Translators work with a wide range of materials, such as documents, books, websites, and audio recordings, to make information accessible to speakers of different languages. These jobs require fluency in at least two languages, strong cultural knowledge, and attention to detail. Many translators specialize in specific fields like legal, medical, or technical translation to ensure accuracy and proper terminology. Translation jobs can be freelance, part-time, or full-time positions, and many offer the flexibility to work remotely.

What are some common challenges translators face when working with specialized or technical content?

Translators working with specialized or technical content often encounter challenges such as understanding complex terminology, maintaining accuracy while adapting information for different cultural contexts, and keeping up with industry-specific language changes. They may need to consult subject matter experts or use specialized glossaries to ensure their translations are both precise and clear. Collaborating closely with clients and colleagues is also essential to clarify ambiguities and deliver high-quality work that meets the intended purpose and audience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a translator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Translator, you need advanced proficiency in at least two languages, strong writing skills, and a degree in translation, linguistics, or a related field. Familiarity with computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools, terminology databases, and relevant certification (like ATA or CIOL) is often required. Exceptional attention to detail, cultural sensitivity, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for this role. These abilities ensure accurate, contextually appropriate translations that meet client needs and industry standards.

Working closely with Creative Production, Regional Marketing and external translation partners, this leader ensures translated copy is delivered on time, production-ready and supports the integrity of the original creative.

  • Monitor agency quality, turnaround times, and service levels
  • Continuously improve translation workflows and agency performance

Align and Execute with Creative Production

  • Collaborate with Production, Creative, Regional teams and translation partners to resolve issues before assets move into final production
  • Escalate translation challenges early to minimize downstream production delays

Drive Translation Excellence
  • Maintain approved terminology and translation standards
  • Coordinate regional language reviews and approvals
  • Ensure consistency across product naming, technical language, and brand terminology
  • Identify opportunities to improve translation quality and efficiency over time

  • Global campaigns launch with consistent, high-quality translated assets

What You'll Bring to the Team
  • 5 years in translation/localization management, production coordination, project management, or global marketing operations
  • Experience managing external agency or vendor relationships, ideally translation or creative production vendors
  • Background working with multilingual marketing assets across regions
  • Experience in apparel, outdoor, or consumer brand marketing production is a plus, not a requirement
