Job description

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years Window Dispatch experience in a transit/transportation environment required
  • Transit environment experience preferred
  • Must have valid AZ CDL Class B w/passenger endorsement
  • Ability to effectively decipher maps
  • Ability to handle stress, including emergency situations
  • Uses good judgment in making decisions in emergency and routine situations
  • Email and Internet; Microsoft Office Applications Suite

  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communications and organizational skills

  • Reasoning skills and Decision making

ย Key Accountabilities: ย 

  • Assign work, vehicles and onboard equipment to operators and maintain check-out logsย 
  • Assign operators in the event of operator absences, increased service volumes in order to minimize service disruptions as a result of traffic, vehicle malfunctions, operator problems and/or emergency situations.ย 
  • Maintain accurate logs for attendanceย 
  • Maintain communication with operators, providing information on customers, cancellations, and directional assistance where necessaryย 
  • Monitor operators and trip status, adjusts and reassignments as necessary to ensure on time performanceย 
  • Provide assistance to operators in the event of emergency or vehicle malfunctions, communicating with operations, safety and maintenance staff where appropriate.ย 
  • Reschedule trips as necessary in the event of vehicle malfunction, traffic, or emergency situationsย 
  • Reconcile trip manifests by operatorsย 
  • Provide assistance to passengers in using the service as well as when inquiring about individual trip status.ย 
  • Document accurately and appropriately daily events related to serviceย 
  • Collect any lost and found articles and catalog, attempt to contact appropriate passengers where possibleย 
  • Maintain a safe work area and a focus on safety to reduce the opportunity for injury to self or other employees.ย 
  • Radio checks all vehicles leaving the yard at all timesย 
  • Establish and maintain headways for all online busesย 
  • Will maintain โ€œexceptionsโ€ and โ€œincidentsโ€ logย 
  • Will assist drivers with informational material as neededย 
  • Report to supervisors and duty managers any drivers failing to meet duties onlineย 
  • Other duties as assigned by immediate supervisorย

  • Exposure to both extreme heat and cold;
  • Exposure to loud noises, fumes, and airborne particles;

In addition to the above demands inherent in every role, the following roles may entail unique physical demands, including:

  • Operators/Drivers may work inside or outside vehicles and may operate vehicles for over 8 hours per day.
  • Operations Supervisors and Managers may split their work between an office setting looking at a computer screen/electronic device and active transit field locations driving in a vehicle.
  • Maintenance Employees may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals in a ventilated maintenance shop and may work with personal computers, laptops, electronic hand-held devices, complex electrical schematics, diagnostic software and testing devices, and other heavy machinery.
  • Office Staff may work indoors in air-conditioned or well-ventilated facilities, including offices and cubicle spaces equipped with a telephone and computer and may entail typing or looking at a computer screen.
