Transit Cleaner information

What is a transit cleaner?

Transit cleaners are professionals responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of public transportation vehicles, such as buses, trains, and subways. Their duties include sweeping, mopping, sanitizing surfaces, emptying trash, and sometimes performing minor maintenance tasks. By ensuring vehicles are clean and presentable, transit cleaners help provide a safe and comfortable environment for passengers and staff. This role is essential in promoting public health and maintaining a positive image of transit services.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a transit cleaner, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Transit Cleaner, you need attention to detail, physical stamina, and a basic understanding of cleaning protocols, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with industrial cleaning equipment, cleaning chemicals, and safety procedures is typically required. Reliability, time management, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team are important soft skills. These skills ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for passengers and help maintain the operational efficiency of transit systems.

What are some common challenges faced by transit cleaners, and how are they typically addressed?

Transit cleaners often face challenges such as working in fast-paced environments, dealing with high passenger traffic, and addressing unexpected spills or messes. To manage these, teams are usually well-coordinated, with clear protocols for rapid response and prioritizing tasks. Cleaners may work early mornings, late nights, or weekends to ensure vehicles and stations are ready for service. Regular training and the use of safety equipment help maintain efficiency and safety while handling cleaning chemicals and equipment.

Job description

An Update About Our Organization

There has never been a more exciting time to grow with CLV Group!

With the July 2026 acquisition of InterRent, we have strengthened our national presence and united two established organizations with a shared commitment to our people, our residents, and the greater communities we serve. Together, we are building something truly remarkable.

About us

For more than 50 years, CLV Group has specialized in building vibrant communities that our residents across Canada are proud to call home. Our standard of excellence is no accident - it's driven entirely by our amazing people.

Our Operations teams are at the heart of what we do, creating exceptional resident experiences and ensuring our communities are safe, welcoming, and well cared for every day. We're looking for people who take pride in their work and care about making a real difference in their community.

We are currently seeking a Live-In Superintendent to join our operations team at our Prospect Street community in Burlington. This hands-on role is ideal for a dependable cleaning & maintenance professional with strong customer service skills who enjoys contributing to a vibrant community of residents. As a live-in team member, you will be responsible for maintaining all building areas and ensuring that shared spaces remain clean, modern, well-maintained, and welcoming for residents.

Our Prospect Street community is a mid-rise residential apartment building offering one, two, and three-bedroom suites, with on-site features including controlled entry systems, elevator service, and on-site management to support the day-to-day operations of the property. Located in Burlington's commercial district, the building is directly across from Burlington Centre and provides residents with convenient access to shopping, dining, and everyday services. The property is well connected to public transit and major transportation routes, including the Burlington GO Station, QEW, Highway 403, and Highway 407. The surrounding community offers a mix of residential neighbourhoods, parks, recreational amenities, and local businesses, providing residents with access to a range of services and outdoor spaces.

Responsibilities

In addition to the duties typically expected of a property maintenance professional, responsibilities will include;

  • Clean and sanitize common areas, laundry rooms, and on-site amenities to ensure high hygiene standards.
  • Empty garbage and ensure that waste is disposed of safely and properly.
  • Perform unit turnovers to prepare suites for new residents, including deep cleaning, appliance cleaning, baseboard scrubbing, and other tasks required to ensure units are move-in ready.
  • Respond to and complete minor maintenance work orders, including plumbing repairs, water leak investigations, fixture repairs, and other general maintenance tasks.
  • Occasionally engage in snow removal during winter months.
  • Respond to after-hours emergency situations, including evenings and weekends.
  • Escalate complex or major maintenance and repair issues to the Property Management team.
  • Assist in coordinating vendors and contractors performing maintenance, repair, and improvement work in the building.
  • Follow all safety protocols and use all assigned personal protective equipment appropriately.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in residential property management, including cleaning, maintenance, and resident relations considered a strong asset; however, it is not required.
  • Ability to perform a variety of repetitive physical tasks, including bending, kneeling, lifting, and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Basic English verbal communication skills.
  • Friendly, respectable, and community-minded with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to provide professional references and have a proven record of reliable work attendance.

Our Team + What You Can Expect

  • Most of the work completed will be at 3030 Prospect Street, Burlington. However, you may be required to occasionally work at neighboring properties when needed.
  • This role requires continuous on-call availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to address emergency situations and urgent resident needs.

Compensation

  • Base salary for this position is between $30,000 - $35,000 per year + housing benefitwith final compensation based on the successful candidate's skills, experience, and other job-related qualifications. We encourage candidates at all stages of their careers to apply.
  • All employees are eligible for comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage for themselves and their dependents, with 100% of benefit premiums covered by CLV Group.
  • Employees receive three weeks of paid vacation annually, accruing from their first day of employment, to support time away to rest and recharge.

Why CLV Group?

  • Work That Matters: Our site teams help create safe, welcoming and well cared for homes for thousands of residents. The work you do has a direct impact on people's everyday lives.
  • Pride in Our Communities: Whether you are preparing a suite, completing a repair, maintaining a building, or supporting residents, you play an important role in keeping our communities running smoothly and looking their best.
  • Opportunities to Grow: CLV Group is a growing organization with opportunities to learn new skills and build a long-term career in property operations.
  • A Company That Gives Back: Caring for communities is part of who we are. We support local charities, community initiatives and programs that make a meaningful difference in the places where we live and work.
