What are transit cleaners?

Transit cleaners are professionals responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of public transportation vehicles, such as buses, trains, and subways. Their duties include sweeping, mopping, sanitizing surfaces, emptying trash, and sometimes performing minor maintenance tasks. By ensuring vehicles are clean and presentable, transit cleaners help provide a safe and comfortable environment for passengers and staff. This role is essential in promoting public health and maintaining a positive image of transit services.

Job description

At Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation we deliver excitement.  Our mission is to connect people with sports and entertainment and this is what we are truly passionate about.  If you’d like to join a team that’s fast paced, diverse, energized and beyond passionate about delivering extraordinary experiences to our guests, then we’d love to sign you to a player's contract!

The Position

The CSEC Kitchen team is currently seeking active interest in a reliable, hardworking Van Driver to join our culinary team. This unique role is the "connective tissue" between two of Calgary’s most iconic venues: The Scotiabank Saddledome and McMahon Stadium.

What We Offer

  • Gratuities earned every shift;
  • Parking pass when working;
  • Opportunity for growth and development;
  • Advanced scheduling;
  • Discount at Flames store;
  • Service and recognition awards;
  • Be a part of your favorite sporting and entertainment events in the city.

Key Accountabilities

  • Primary Duty: Operating a 3 to 5-ton truck to transport food and event equipment between venues.
  • Secondary Duty: When not on the road, you will be deployed to support either the Stewarding or Kitchen departments based on immediate needs.

Transportation & Logistics

  • Safely operate a 3-5 ton truck in various weather conditions and city traffic.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Load and unload heavy equipment, racks and rolls of food, hot boxes and event supplies using lift gates and dollies.
  • Ensure all cargo is secured properly with straps to prevent damage during transit.
  • Fill up the fuel tank when required.
  • Maintain the interior cleanliness of the truck cab and cargo area; report any mechanical issues or required oil change/service immediately.
  • Maneuver the truck into tight loading bays at both venues, often navigating around pedestrians and other delivery vehicles.
  • Ensure "empties" (dirty linens, empty CO2 tanks, used crates, or returnable pallets) are brought back to the home base at the end of each run.
  • Safely use manual or electric pallet jacks to stage equipment in designated warehouse zones occasionally.
  • Transport recycling, compost, or specialized waste between venues if one location has a primary sorting facility.
  • Maintain and wear appropriate gear for the task at hand (e.g., steel-toed boots for driving/loading, non-slip shoes for the kitchen, and proper uniform provided by CSEC).

Cross-Departmental Support

  • Kitchen Support: Assist with basic food prep, organizing walk-in coolers, or moving stock to various concession points.
  • Stewarding Support: Assist with dish management, heavy-duty cleaning of kitchen equipment, and maintaining venue sanitation standards.
  • Inventory: Help track outgoing and incoming stock between the two locations.

Other

  • Actively participate in safety programs and follow polices;
  • All other duties as assigned.

THE INDIVIDUAL

The ideal candidate will have the following background:

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (with a clean abstract)
  • Experience driving 3-ton or 5-ton vehicles is highly preferred.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs
  • Able to take initiative and make decisions as required;
  • Strong written and verbal communication;
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule with evening and weekend shifts.

Shifts are event driven and consist of mainly evenings and weekends.  Flexible availability is required.

This position will remain open until suitable candidates are found.
