ABOUT RTS ACCESS:RTS Access provides a complementary service, also known as "paratransit service," to the RTS fixed route system. This form of transportation is available to those customers with disabilities who are unable to utilize the RTS fixed route system for all or some of their transportation needs.

RTS Access is seekinga Full-Time bus Washer to join our team!Becoming a Bus Washer for Regional Transit Service Access is an excellent way to start a career with one of the nation's top Transit Authorities.Through the cleaning of buses, you will be involved in a team that is critical to our customers' healthand safety, along with providing them with an overall satisfying customer experience.

This position is responsible for:

  • Cleaning and washing the interior and exterior of transit buses
  • Fueling buses
  • Parking and placing buses for service

CURRENT AVAILABLE SHIFT:Saturday to Wednesday 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM, Thursday & Friday off

SCOPE OF WORK & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is physically demanding, using power and hand tools. The work is performed in an outside environment regardless of the weather.

Applicants must have the ability to:

  • Work in various temperatures, including thesummer heat and winter cold.
  • Work in a noisy work environment.
  • Hear oncoming vehicles, horns, and other verbal signals in and between buses without a line of sight.
  • Perform work at a high rate of speed.
  • Work in a dark and dimly lit work environment.
  • Work in a confined space.
  • Follow directions.
  • Work in wet and slippery conditions.
  • Stand for long periods of time on hard and uneven surfaces.
  • Move from a standing position to stooping multiple times, the ability to bend, squat, crouch, stretch, lift arms and hands over head.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Kneel on wet, flat, hard surfaces.
  • Walk and move quickly through buses for several hundred feet.
  • Be dependable, arrive to work on time; honest, and be able to work as a team.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid NY State Driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain a Class B permit with passenger endorsement and no air brake restriction prior to start date.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Ability to work as a team.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Dependability and punctuality.
  • Honesty.
  • Ability to follow directions.

This is a Union environment in association with the Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 282.
