Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US LLC is looking for a Mechanical Engineer I in Southborough, MA.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This role is responsible for providing design and application support, along with application training, on Residential and Commercial ductless and Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) HVAC systems. On the job training and development will provide this introductory position the tools and resources to conceive, develop, and evaluate plans and criteria for solving increasingly complex engineering problems. This position will assess feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering solutions, along with defining design constraints to support the specification community. Work towards developing capability as a subject matter expert while gathering insight and knowledge from peers and mentors within the organization. This person will also create and implement plans to educate internal and external customers on the proper application(s) of ductless and VRF technology.
The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following:
Application Support:
  • Provide technical and application support through the development and implementation of software tools, programs, and information to create strategic advantage, solve market needs, and leverage core capability to increase the knowledge and specification of Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US (METUS) solutions.
  • Develop engineering application white papers to address specific business unit concerns. Works towards becoming a subject matter expert on core METUS products through continuous development and learning.
  • Ability to apply acquired fundamental engineering concepts to application support function and involvement in projects of increasing complexity. Fundamental engineering concepts include, but are not limited to, duct and pipe sizing, load calculations, psychometrics, and fan and pump curve concepts.
  • Seeks opportunities to become involved in project installation sites, working alongside METUS service and sales staff to build knowledge and skills on the proper application and installation of METUS products.

Training:
  • Support the METUS sales and service team in conducting internal and external training events , including the knowledge transfer of existing products / applications and introduction of new concepts, products, or methodologies.
  • Maintain a consistent presence at the training center by offering in-person office hours at least twice per month (adjust availability as necessary) to support your personal development and to provide sales, training, and technical support to our business unit.

Technical Documentation and Collateral:
  • Support the creation and review of technical documentation, literature, and collateral. Technical documentation includes, but is not limited to, application notes, I&O manuals, schematic drawings, submittals, engineering data, and white papers.
  • Assist senior mechanical engineering staff on complex initiatives including, but not limited to, application note updates, development of knowledge and workload in data regression, and the use and application of software tools such as Trane Trace 3D Plus.

Sales Support:
  • Assist with customer support and applications questions for METUS and non-METUS products. Products to be supported include ductless and VRF systems and third-party products, such as LEV kits, DOAS systems, replacement parts, and other future offerings.
  • Provide Tier 2 support for METUS sales team members on design software, including Diamond System Builder (DSB) and PremiSys CAPS.
  • Willing to travel up to 20% to for various Company meetings and training both domestically and possibly internationally
  • Other Duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 1-3 years mechanical HVAC experience, including design and energy analysis.
  • Prefer E.I.T (Engineer in Training) with desired growth toward obtaining a P.E. License
  • Prefer other professional certifications such as LEED A.P. or CEM accreditation
  • B.S degree in mechanical engineering or similar technical degree from ABET accredited engineering program required.
  • Experience with Trane Trace 3D Plus, Carrier HAP, EnergyPro, and EQuest.
  • Experience with AutoCAD (required) and REVIT (preferred)
  • Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Office, specifically with creating complex Excel analysis
  • Strong communication, presentation, training, and technical writing skills; Analytical approach to problem solving; self motivated, and like to work hands-on.
  • Team player demonstrating METUS core values including a desire to win together, deliver excellence, drive sustainability, focus on execution and learn continuously

The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $85,600 and $117,700 per year, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including target bonus plans and discretionary awards. Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans then in effect, eligible employees may enroll in a 401(k) plan, as well as participate in Company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance plans for the employee and the employee's eligible dependents. Employees will also receive 80 hours of vacation per year, 56 hours of paid sick leave annually, and 13 paid holidays throughout the calendar year, depending on hire date. Employees may also take up to 12 weeks of paid or unpaid [parental/disability/emergency/etc.] leave, if eligible.
