About the Company:
Fulcrum Technologies, Inc. has been designing and manufacturing custom machine bases for vibration-sensitive production tools used in semiconductor fabrication for more than two decades. Position Summary:
The Laser Cutting Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating CNC laser cutting equipment to produce precision parts in accordance with engineering drawings, work instructions, and quality requirements. This role supports daily production goals by ensuring parts are cut accurately, material is handled properly, and equipment is maintained for optimal performance.
The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, understands manufacturing tolerances, and takes ownership of quality, safety, and productivity.
Key Responsibilities:
Machine Operation
  • Set up and operate CNC laser cutting machines to cut sheet metal and plate materials.
  • Load and unload raw material and finished parts using appropriate material handling equipment.
  • Verify programs, tooling, and material type/thickness prior to running jobs.
  • Monitor machine operation and adjust parameters as needed to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Get trained to program nesting operations to become fully trained as a programmer and operator
  • Perform first-article inspections and in-process checks per work instructions.

Quality & Documentation
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, travelers, and work instructions.
  • Ensure parts meet dimensional, cosmetic, and quality requirements.
  • Accurately complete production travelers, inspection records, and job documentation.
  • Identify and report nonconforming material or process issues to supervision.

Material & Production Control
  • Maintain proper material identification and traceability.
  • Optimize sheet utilization and minimize scrap where possible.
  • Meet production schedules while maintaining quality standards.
  • Coordinate with Programming, Engineering, and Quality teams as needed.

Equipment & Maintenance
  • Perform daily startup, shutdown, and routine machine maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Report machine issues, maintenance needs, or safety concerns promptly.
  • Follow all safety procedures related to laser operation, material handling, and PPE.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • >5 years' experience operating CNC laser cutting equipment in a manufacturing environment (experience level may vary).
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Basic understanding of CNC controls and machine setup.
  • Experience working with sheet metal and/or plate materials (steel, aluminum, stainless, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to lift up to 35lbs and stand for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with specific laser platforms (e.g., Trumpf, Bystronic, Amada, Mazak).
  • Familiarity with nesting software and CNC programming concepts.
  • Experience in ISO 9001 / AS9100 or other regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Forklift or overhead crane certification.
  • Understanding of material grades, thicknesses, and cutting parameters.
