Job description

New Media Writer/Reporter, USA TODAY Entertainment 

Location: New York or Los Angeles 
Reports to: New Media Editor, Entertainment 

Overview: 

USA TODAY Entertainment is seeking a creative and trend-savvy New Media Writer/Reporter to cover the fast-evolving world of influencers, podcasts, and digital creators. This role will focus on identifying emerging talent, reporting on news in the influencer and podcast space, and exploring opportunities for partnerships that resonate with our audience. The ideal candidate is a sharp storyteller with a deep understanding of new media culture, a passion for breaking news and trend-driven coverage, and the ability to leverage AI tools to enhance reporting and workflow. 

Responsibilities:

Influencer & Podcast Coverage: 

  • Report on news, trends, and developments in the influencer and podcast space. 
  • Profile emerging talent and established creators who connect with USA TODAY’s audience. 
  • Use video tools to report from influencer and podcast events. 

Talent Identification & Partnerships: 

  • Spot rising influencers and podcast hosts for coverage and potential collaborations. 
  • Work with the New Media Editor to explore partnership opportunities with creators and shows. 

Content Creation & AI Integration: 

  • Pitch and produce compelling stories that stand out in the digital entertainment landscape. 
  • Use AI tools to assist with research, trend analysis, transcription, and content packaging to improve efficiency and creativity. 
  • Collaborate with social and video teams to enhance storytelling through multimedia formats. 

Trend Monitoring: 

  • Stay ahead of cultural shifts and platform changes impacting influencers and podcasts.
  • Use analytics and audience insights to inform coverage decisions.  

Requirements: 

  • Experience in digital journalism or entertainment reporting, with a focus on influencers or podcasts preferred. 
  • Strong writing and reporting skills with an eye for accuracy and engagement. 
  • Familiarity with social platforms, creator economy, and podcasting trends. 
  • Ability to work quickly and creatively in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Comfort with AI tools for reporting, research, and workflow optimization. 
  • Collaborative mindset and willingness to experiment with new storytelling formats.

The annualized base salary for this role will range between $60,000 and $93,750. Base compensation is reflective of many factors, including, but not limited to, the market in which one lives/works, individual education level, skills, certifications and experience. Note: variable compensation is not reflected in these figures and based on the role, may be applicable.
