Job description

The Communications Specialist supports the creation and delivery of clear, accurate, and engaging communications. This role produces written, digital, and visual content across a variety of platforms and ensures alignment with institutional brand standards. The position requires strong writing, editing, and organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.

The UAB Department of Urology is seeking a creative, versatile, and highly organized Communications Specialist to help elevate and expand our department's visibility across digital, print, and multimedia platforms. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing strategic communication with hands-on content creation and thrives in a fast-paced academic medicine environment.  The ideal candidate will have experience with writing content for a variety of platforms, website content management, graphic design, and photography, with the ability to capture and showcase the people, programs, and achievements that make UAB Urology a national leader in patient care, research, and education. Success in this role requires exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, creativity, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while collaborating with faculty, staff, trainees, and institutional partners.

As Communications Specialist, you'll play a vital role in sharing the stories, discoveries, and achievements that shape our impact locally, nationally, and globally.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports unit-wide communications initiatives by gathering information, preparing materials, and coordinating distribution using university approved platforms and tools.
  • Drafts, edits, and produces content for channels that may include web, email, social media, video, newsletters, and print publications.
  • Tracks and reports on engagement metrics to evaluate communications effectiveness.
  • Provides logistical and administrative support for communication projects and initiatives.
  • Collaborates with colleagues and stakeholders to implement communications projects and initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Salary Range: $47,665 - $77,455

Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field. Work experience may NOT substitute for the education requirement. 

Preferred:

  • Writing content for a variety of platforms, website content management, graphic design, and photography. 
  • Degree in Marketing, Media, Graphic Design, Communications, Advertising, or related field
