Job description

Overview

FMI Corporation is seeking a talented professional to join FMI Capital Advisors, the firm's investment banking group and registered broker-dealer. For more than 70 years, FMI has been the leading consulting and investment banking firm exclusively serving the built environment. Our analysts make meaningful contributions to live transactions from day one, supporting multiple M&A deal teams and playing an integral role on every engagement. Clients hire FMI because of our unparalleled industry expertise, deep sector relationships, and access to leading firms.

The Investment Banking Analyst role is a generalist position supporting transaction execution and business development across sell-side and buy-side M&A, private capital placements, and ESOP advisory engagements. Successful candidates begin with afour-week formal training program alongside a cohort of analyst peers before gaining experience across nine specialized sub-sector teams located across four offices.

Unlike many investment banking analyst programs, FMI offers early responsibility, meaningful client exposure, and the opportunity to develop deep expertise within the built environment. Analysts gain experience across multiple industry sectors and transaction types while working alongside senior bankers in a collaborative, apprenticeship-style environment designed to accelerate professional growth.

Successful Investment Banking Analysts at FMI are analytical, intellectually curious, and committed to producing exceptional work. They take ownership, communicate proactively, collaborate effectively across deal teams, and continuously develop their technical and professional skills in a demanding, high-performance environment. Advancement to the Associate role is highly selective and earned through consistently outstanding performance, technical excellence, and demonstrated readiness-not tenure.

As part of our investment in professional development, FMI provides dedicated study time, training resources, and covers the cost of obtaining the required FINRA Series 79 and Series 63 licenses.

This position is a full-time opportunity based in our Raleigh, North Carolina office and is targeted to start on August 2, 2027.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. FMI is unable to provide visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct industry, market, and company research to support live M&A transactions and business development initiatives.
  • Build financial models (including DCF, comparable company, comparable transaction, and LBO analyses), perform valuation analyses, and develop insights to support transaction execution.
  • Prepare client-facing transaction materials, including pitch books, teasers, confidential information memoranda (CIMs), and management presentations.
  • Support due diligence, transaction execution, and deal process management across multiple live engagements.
  • Research acquisition opportunities and market trends across the built environment.
  • Collaborate across multiple deal teams while managing competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Provide support to members of the investment banking team and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Previous investment banking internship experience preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • FINRA Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) Exam preferred but not required.
  • Experience with financial research and CRM platforms such as DealCloud, Capital IQ (CapIQ), FactSet, or PitchBook is a plus.

The anticipated base salary for this role is$90,000, plus annual bonus and signing bonus.

FMI provides a comprehensive benefits package, including employer-paid medical insurance, life insurance, long-term disability coverage, a strong 401(k) plan, paid time off, parental leave, and additional voluntary benefit options.

FMI is an equal opportunity employer. Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, marital status, protected veteran status, disability, or any other status protected by applicable law.
