Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Driver's license required.
  • Experience preferred, but will train.

Pay Schedule: Current pay for sub and regular bus drivers is as follows:
  • Sub bus driver trainee, training rate (no CDL) $21.00/hr.
  • Sub bus driver trainee, training rate (with CDL) $22.00/hr.
  • Sub bus driver, hourly rate (completion of GDTP Levels 1-5) $23.00/hr.
  • Regular bus driver hourly rate (step 1-10) $23.00 - $29.20/hr.

Note: This graduated pay schedule is designed to provide incentive for timely completion of obtaining a CDL and for timely completion of the first five (5) levels of the Graduated Driver Training Program (GDTP).
Attendance Incentives: New hire and regular bus driver incentives are as follows:
  • New hires will be paid $500 after they have driven fifty (50) school days and an additional $1,000 after they have driven one-hundred and eighty (180) school days.
  • Regular bus drivers shall receive an attendance incentive based on the number of sick days used during each of three (3) designated periods:
    1. From the first day of work for the school year through November 30: (Zero (0) days used, $200; One (1) day of partial day used, $100)
    2. From December 1 through the last school day before Spring Break: (Zero (0) days used, $200; One (1) day of partial day used, $100)
    3. From Spring Break through the last school day for the school year: (Zero (0) days used, $200; One (1) day of partial day used, $100)

Pay Benefits:
  • All regular bus drivers at WO receive five (5) days of pay during Spring Break (as paid time off) plus two (2) additional days during Winter Holiday Break (for those with 6 or more years of experience).
  • All regular bus drivers at WO receive three (3) personal paid days (as paid time off) during the school year
  • Regular bus drivers at WO receive two (2) paid snow days when used (as paid time off) and can receive pay on additional snow days from available accrued personal or sick time up to the maximum number of days allowed by law (with no impact on the attendance incentives described above).
  • Regular bus drivers at WO accrue sick leave each month to help provide income when sick and unable to work and earn retirement through the Michigan Public School Employees' Retirement System (MPSERS).
  • Regular bus drivers at WO who are eligible for Vision & dental insurance and certain health insurance benefits, or, can opt out for a lucrative 'cash in lieu' (for those who work 30 or more assigned hours per week).
  • Regular bus drivers at WO can increase their work hours to 30 or more hours per week by also working in West Ottawa's Food Service department (between the morning andf afternoon bus runs)
  • Regular bus drivers at WO can significantly supplement their income by opting to take day or night trips at full pay for driving time... and wait (down) time.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Must be able to meet the medical standards as outlined in 49CFR391.41 as determined by the district's FMCSA approved medical examiner.
  • The worker should provide consistent and reliable attendance.
