Trainee Frontend Web Developer information

What is a trainee frontend web developer?

A Trainee Frontend Web Developer is an entry-level position where individuals learn and assist in creating the visual and interactive parts of websites or web applications. They work with technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript under the guidance of more experienced developers. The role typically involves coding, debugging, and collaborating with design and backend teams to implement user-friendly interfaces. This position serves as a starting point for a career in web development, providing hands-on experience and foundational skills.

What types of projects and tasks can a trainee frontend web developer expect to work on during their first year?

As a Trainee Frontend Web Developer, you’ll typically start by assisting with smaller tasks such as updating website content, fixing minor bugs, and implementing basic design elements under the guidance of experienced developers. Over time, you may be given responsibility for building simple web pages or features, learning to collaborate with designers and backend developers. You’ll also participate in regular code reviews, team meetings, and may be encouraged to contribute ideas to improve user experience. This hands-on approach helps you gradually build your technical skills and confidence while becoming familiar with the team’s workflow and tools.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a trainee frontend web developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Trainee Frontend Web Developer, you need a solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, often supported by a relevant degree or coursework. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, basic knowledge of frameworks such as React or Vue.js, and experience using code editors are typically expected. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you adapt and collaborate within development teams. These skills are crucial for building user-friendly interfaces, maintaining code quality, and contributing effectively in fast-paced tech environments.

Front-End Web Developer

Full Time

Bay Area or Remote

Perimeter – May 24, 2024

Perimeter is searching for Front-End Web Developers to create and support an intuitive, real-time communication tool for first responders and communities affected by natural disasters such as wildfires and hurricanes. For Perimeter, user experience is more than just a differentiator – ease-of-use and clarity are essential tenets of the product and make all the difference in dire situations during a disaster. By helping us iterate and improve our product, you will help to create a unique user experience in high-stress, high-risk environments.

Perimeter’s mission is to provide trusted information to bridge the gap between governmental agencies and the communities they serve. We do this by improving the quality of current evacuation warnings and other communications: rather than rely on text-based notifications sent to entire cities or counties, emergency managers can use Perimeter to send communities accurate and detailed evacuation maps with recommended routes and guidance on where to go. Unlike a traditional text message, Perimeter provides real-time information on how a disaster is progressing.

Team updates:
  • We closed our $4.5 million funding round in mid-May of 2023, and are well-positioned for growth in the coming years.
  • Perimeter already has active deployments with 106 departments across California and Nevada serving 2.2M residents, including active deployments for wildfires, floods, and day-to-day hazards like road closures across various counties in 2023.
  • We received 1.4 million views during our first Merced County deployment in January 2023.
  • Perimeter has multiple new customers in our pipeline and is in a stage of rapid growth.
  • We have been featured in the New York Times, Business Insider, Forbes, The Guardian, and The Wall Street Journal, and were winners of the New York Times’ “Good Tech Awards” and the Beat the Blaze government hackathon.
  • Our co-founders were recognized in Forbes’ 30 Under 30 in Enterprise Technology for their work at Perimeter.
As A Web Developer, You Will:
  • Help develop our web app and related services.
  • Work closely with Tech Leads, PMs, designers, and other engineers.
  • Proactively enhance our platform.
You Will Love This Job If:
  • You are passionate about the problem we are solving.
  • You are excited to work with an early stage start-up and take charge of your work.
  • You want to continuously learn new skills and grow with the company.
  • You enjoy the flexibility of full-remote work as well as some in-person time with the team during off-sites.
You Should Get In Touch If:
  • You have 3+ years of experience in web development.
  • You have developed a web application project using React.
  • You are familiar with typescript or are comfortable with quickly picking it up.
Some Things We Consider Critical:
  • You write understandable code with an eye towards maintainability and scalability.
  • When things break – and they will – you are eager and able to help fix things.
  • You write unit tests for the features that you build.
  • You help code review other engineers.
Interested? Great! Here’s what you should know:

This is a remote, full-time role. Our team is high impact, low ego, and has an amazing culture of focusing on both the personal and professional growth of each team member.

We recently finalized our largest funding round yet, which makes this a special moment to join the team and leave a mark on a truly mission driven company. Seize a unique opportunity to lead the product as we grow and deploy nationwide.

We especially encourage applicants of different backgrounds, cultures, genders, experiences, abilities and perspectives to apply. We’re actively working to increase the diversity of experience and perspectives on our team and are looking for someone who can help continue to lead that process.

Deploy in minutes, not months. Your community is looking to you for answers. Are you ready?
