Engineer the Intelligence Behind Flight as a Sr. Advanced Software Engineer
Build the systems that guide the world’s most advanced aircraft.
Location: Phoenix, AZ | Payrate: $63.45 / hrPosition Overview

PDS Tech Commercial is seeking an experienced Sr Advanced Software Engineer to join Flight Management Systems (FMS) team supporting the Anthem Next Generation Avionics Program.

This role is ideal for candidates with extensive experience developing Flight Management System software and a strong background in C++, object-oriented design, and aerospace software architecture. You'll work alongside systems and software engineers to develop, integrate, test, and deliver advanced avionics solutions that meet customer and certification requirements.

Candidate Requirements

Candidates MUST have Flight Management Systems (FMS) software development experience.

Applicants should have experience in several of the following FMS functional areas:

  • Navigation Database Management
  • Flight Planning
  • Lateral & Vertical Guidance
  • Performance / Trajectory Predictions
  • Performance Optimization
  • Radio Tuning
  • Approach Operations
  • Datalink
  • Takeoff & Landing Functions
  • User Interface Development

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop high-quality FMS software architectures and applications.
  • Integrate Flight Management Software for next-generation avionics products.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to define requirements and specifications.
  • Develop software solutions that meet performance, safety, security, and scalability objectives.
  • Conduct code reviews and provide technical guidance to team members.
  • Support software integration, testing, and validation in laboratory test environments.
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum development activities.
  • Support certification and compliance requirements for aerospace software.
  • Stay current with industry technologies, best practices, and emerging avionics trends.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in:

    • Computer Science
    • Software Engineering
    • Computer Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Related STEM field
  • 8+ years of Flight Management Systems (FMS) software development experience

  • Strong C++ and object-oriented programming skills

  • Software architecture and design experience

  • Agile and/or Scrum development experience

  • Experience developing complex aerospace or avionics software systems


Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science or related discipline
  • Embedded software development experience
  • Multi-core / multi-threaded software development
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Object-Oriented Analysis & Design (OOAD)
    • Software Design Patterns
    • Aerospace Software Architectures
  • DO-178C software lifecycle experience
  • Software Verification & Validation experience
  • Experience testing and integrating avionics applications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Pay Details: $63.45 per hour
