Trailer Worker information

What is the difference between Trailer Worker vs Truck Driver?

AspectTrailer WorkerTruck Driver
CredentialsDriver's license, CDL often preferredCommercial Driver's License (CDL)
Work EnvironmentLoading/unloading trailers, yard workDriving long distances, on-road
Industry UsageLogistics yards, warehousesFreight transportation, delivery
Common TasksTrailer hooking/unhooking, yard maintenanceDriving trucks, route delivery

Trailer Workers primarily handle trailer movement and yard tasks within logistics facilities, often requiring a CDL. Truck Drivers focus on transporting goods over distances, also needing a CDL. While both roles involve driving, Trailer Workers are more yard-focused, whereas Truck Drivers are on the road. Understanding these differences helps job seekers find the right position in the transportation industry.

How to become a trailer worker?

To become a trailer worker, you typically need a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver's license.
