Position Description
$22.00+ per hour, pay is negotiable based on experience.
The primary function of this position is to safely coordinate daily traffic operations and perform duties relating to the paving, milling, and reclaiming operations safety and efficiently in accordance with Connecticut Department of Transportation standards.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and consistently maintain a safe work environment
  • Coordinate the proper placement of cones, barrels, and flaggers to ensure site safety and efficiency
  • Safely transport sign packages to support daily operations of paving and earthwork crews
  • Maintain a working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and MUTCD regulations and specifications
  • Communicate daily with field supervisors regarding operational needs, signage quality, and safety concerns
  • Immediately report any equipment damage, safety hazards, or accidents to the foreman
  • Regularly lift and maneuver up to 50 pounds, including push/pull force, as required by job duties
  • Demonstrate schedule flexibility, including availability for early starts, extended hours, weekends, and holidays
  • Assist with quality control tasks when requested
  • Willingness to travel as needed
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Position Requirements
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Must hold current Flagger certification from the American Traffic Services Association (ATSSA) or the National Safety Council (NSC)
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; 2-3 years of industry experience preferred
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Must demonstrate sound judgment and the ability to interpret and analyze Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
  • Must be willing to travel and successfully pass a physical examination and drug screening

Work Conditions:
Incumbent must be able to tolerate moderate to loud noise level (PPE will be provided, including hearing protection as required), long hours standing, walking, and laboring outdoors in varying weather conditions - frequently in extreme heat.

The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, handle, feel, talk, see, and listen. The employee must be able to push levers forward and backwards. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend, twist, kneel and crouch. Employee may sit for an hour or more at a time.
Supervisory Scope:
Will be responsible for directing other traffic control personnel.
Independent Action:
Performs work independently within scope of established guidelines and practices. Consults with Foreman where clarification or exception to procedure may be required.
