This position is a union position with Pennsylvania American Water and the starting pay rate is $34.97 per hour.

This position may be eligible for annual incentive pay and contracted increases as determined by the collective bargaining agreement, and you will have the opportunity for continued salary growth. Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Primary Role

To perform a variety of tasks in supervising and participating in the locating, laying, repairing and extending underground water mains and distribution pipes.

Key Accountabilities
  • Perform a variety of tasks in supervising and participating in the locating, laying, repairing and extending water mains and services in the distributing system.
  • Direct activities of the M/C Utility person, Backhoe Operators and Dump Truck drivers as a crew. 
  • Locate and mark company facilities associated with PA One Call System (includes overseeing and performing function) 
  • Set up or direct the set-up of barricades and place safety lights around work site to protect workers from street traffic. 
  • Operate valves and fire hydrants. 
  • Complete all necessary forms, sketches and field notes and be knowledgeable of usage of maps and records. 
  • Investigate complaints and determine corrective action per company procedures. 
  • Any other duties assigned by supervisors. 
Knowledge/Skills

General knowledge of water hydraulics and distribution system repair and maintenance practices. 

Familiarity with Penn DOT publications for setting up traffic control.

Familiarity with proper completion of Company forms.

Knowledge of maintenance procedures for a variety of hand tools. 

Ability to tap into pressurized mains.

Skillful use of hand tools.

Valid PA Drivers License

Ability to comply with Company’s attendance and safety policies.

Available for 24/7 callout and carryover time.

Working knowledge of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton distribution system components. 

Ability to tap large water mains.

Abilities to like stop water mains. 

Experience/Education

Vocational education, apprentice training, on the job training.

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Ability to understand instructions, safety rules, maps, diagrams, etc.

Perform basic math.

Preferred: DEP Distribution License Crew Leader training course.
