Customs & International Trade Associate
Position:
The customs and international trade associate supports the Customs and International Trade Manager with the increasing international trade activities of our US entities. As a customs expert, you will be responsible for supporting specific customs topics such as Duty Drawback, HTS classification, recordkeeping, audit, ACE reports, CTPAT, and data analysis. You will be a member of the verticalized Global Tax function within JTI and report to the Tax Director Americas.
You will work under the daily supervision of the US Customs and International Trade Manager and closely with various (local) stakeholders to ensure that all aspects of customs and trade compliance of our US entities are met, while seizing opportunities to streamline our current processes and procedures.
Responsibilities:
  • As a Customs and International Trade Associate, you manage accurate US HTS classification, record retention, CTPAT security and trade programs, regulatory changes, training, and system oversight. With increasing trade complexities and tariffs, this role is vital to support risk mitigation, cost control, operational efficiency, and strategic advantage;
  • In addition, you will support with the duty drawback process in close cooperation with our 3rd party drawback broker. You will work with other departments to prepare the duty drawback claims. You will prepare and audit accurate reporting on the status to various stake holders. You will proactively identify (future) opportunities to reclaim duties paid on imports;
  • Manage Section 301, Section 232, and other trade remedy duties (where applicable);
  • Manage CTPAT program and ensure supply chain compliance and risk management;
  • You will stay current on import and export regulations and other applicable governmental initiatives.

Requirements:
  • Bachelors in international business or supply chain;
  • More than 2 years experience with customs & trade compliance is required, Experience with Federal excise taxes is considered a prerequisite;
  • Fluency in English with excellent written and oral skills is a must;
  • Exceptional analytical abilities, research skills, and attention to detail. Working knowledge in a global ERP system is requried. SAP FIORI would be a plus. Proficiency in MS Excel is a must.
