Job description

Sheet Metal Installer II
Position Overview
As a Sheet Metal Installer II, you'll take on more independent responsibility for fabricating, assembling, installing, and repairing sheet metal ductwork and HVAC components on commercial projects, applying in-depth knowledge of dry-side systems to deliver precise, code-compliant work with minimal supervision. Work closely with senior installers and foremen to contribute to efficient, high-quality installations that support safer, more sustainable commercial facilities nationwide. Our people-first culture invests in your mid-level expertise with ongoing training, clear advancement to senior roles, mentorship, and the satisfaction of honing your skills while helping create reliable indoor environments for communities to thrive.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal ductwork, fittings, dampers, and accessories per blueprints, specifications, and SMACNA standards.
  • Perform layout, cutting, bending, seaming, and sealing of ductwork using hand and power tools with increasing independence.
  • Assist in coordinating with other trades, reading and interpreting drawings, and ensuring proper system integration.
  • Conduct quality checks, minor troubleshooting, and adjustments to ensure airtightness, airflow, and compliance.
  • Document work performed, material usage, and progress through accurate paperwork, photos, and logs.
  • Participate in daily safety briefings, job hazard analyses, toolbox talks, and maintain strict adherence to safety protocols and PPE requirements.
  • Mentor entry-level installers (Level I) and actively pursue personal growth in dry-side HVAC applications, codes, and best practices.

Requirements/Qualifications
  • Experience: 3-5 years in commercial sheet metal/HVAC installation and fabrication; demonstrated in-depth knowledge of dry-side applications and design.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; trade school, apprenticeship completion, or relevant certifications (e.g., SMACNA-related) preferred.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs, climb ladders/scaffolding/stairs, work in confined spaces or at heights, bend/kneel/crouch, reach overhead, and use hand/power tools for extended periods; frequent standing, walking, and manual dexterity required.
  • Work Environment/Safety: Primarily field-based in commercial/industrial construction settings (indoor/outdoor, varying weather conditions, active job sites); exposure to noise, dust, heights, sharp materials, and mechanical hazards; must strictly adhere to OSHA regulations, conduct hazard identification, and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, harnesses, and steel-toed boots at all times-safety is our top priority and non-negotiable. This is a safety-sensitive position. Occasional regional travel within assigned market or on-call rotations may be required as business needs dictate.

Required Skills
  • Proficient use of sheet metal tools (shears, snips, brakes, seamers, drills, plasma cutters).
  • Blueprint reading, layout, and interpretation of ductwork drawings and specs.
  • Duct sealing, hanging, and airflow balancing basics.
  • Safety awareness (OSHA 10/30-hour preferred), teamwork, and effective communication with crew, foremen, and customers.
  • Basic documentation and reporting; willingness to learn advanced dry-side HVAC concepts.
