A highly respected and growth-oriented law firm is seeking an experienced Trademark Attorney to join its Intellectual Property practice in one of its Metro Detroit offices. This opportunity is ideal for an attorney with substantial trademark prosecution, portfolio management, and brand protection experience who is looking to step into a sophisticated practice serving both established global companies and emerging businesses.
The practice supports a diverse client base ranging from Fortune 500 companies to startups across a variety of industries. Attorneys in this group handle complex domestic and international trademark matters while collaborating closely with other practice areas as client needs evolve. The firm is seeking a commercially minded attorney who can independently manage client relationships, contribute to business development efforts, and help support the continued growth of the intellectual property team.
This opportunity is well suited for an attorney operating at or near a non-equity shareholder level who values long-term growth, strong client interaction, and a collaborative environment. What Youโll Do
โข Manage domestic and international trademark portfolios for a broad range of clients
โข Conduct preliminary and comprehensive trademark clearance searches using U.S. and international databases
โข Prepare, file, and prosecute U.S. trademark applications and related filings
โข Handle international trademark matters through the Madrid Protocol, Paris Convention, WIPO, and foreign counsel coordination
โข Draft and respond to trademark office actions and manage post-registration maintenance filings
โข Oversee trademark watch notices, brand policing efforts, and enforcement strategy
โข Handle TTAB proceedings including oppositions, cancellations, and extensions of time to oppose
โข Assist with trademark-related litigation matters in state and federal court as needed
โข Coordinate domain name registrations, transfers, and UDRP proceedings
โข Work closely with docketing personnel and trademark management systems including Anaqua
โข Cultivate and maintain strong client relationships while contributing to business development initiatives
โข Assist with process improvement initiatives to support efficiency and continued practice growth
What You Bring
โข J.D. from an accredited law school
โข Admission to practice in Michigan or the District of Columbia and admission before the USPTO
โข 5โ10+ years of trademark and intellectual property experience
โข Strong background in U.S. and international trademark prosecution and portfolio management
โข Experience handling TTAB matters and trademark enforcement strategy
โข Excellent legal writing, communication, and client management skills
โข Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys and staff
โข Strong organizational and project management abilities in a fast-paced environment
โข Portable book of business is required
โข Entrepreneurial mindset with interest in long-term practice growth and client development
