Job description

Job Title: General Engineering & Skilled Trade Expert 3

Location: Lenexa, KS (On-site)

Employment Type: Contract | Full-Time | 12-Month Assignment

Pay Rate: $40.00–$42.00/hour (Based on Experience)


Role Overview

BEPC is seeking a Controls Automation Engineer to support our client's manufacturing operations in Lenexa, Kansas. This is an exciting opportunity for an automation professional with strong Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley PLC experience to maintain, troubleshoot, and improve industrial control systems that drive production efficiency, quality, and safety.

The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of automation engineering experience in a manufacturing environment and hands-on expertise with Rockwell PLC platforms, HMI/SCADA systems, industrial networking, and electrical controls. This position offers a flexible first-shift schedule and the opportunity to work on critical automation projects from concept through implementation.



Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot PLC programs using Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley) platforms including ControlLogix, CompactLogix, and MicroLogix.
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot HMI/SCADA systems such as FactoryTalk View SE/ME, Ignition, or similar platforms.
  • Support the complete lifecycle of automation projects, including design, programming, installation, commissioning, startup, and operational handoff.
  • Diagnose and resolve PLC, instrumentation, electrical, and control system issues to minimize production downtime.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation including electrical schematics, P&IDs, control narratives, and programming standards.
  • Collaborate with process engineers to improve manufacturing efficiency, product quality, and process safety.
  • Perform control system audits and recommend preventive maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide on-site and on-call technical support for critical manufacturing systems.
  • Train maintenance technicians and operators on automation systems and troubleshooting best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, OSHA regulations, NFPA requirements, and internal safety policies.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3–5 years of industrial controls and automation engineering experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Required: Hands-on experience with Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley PLCs, including:
    • ControlLogix
    • CompactLogix
    • Studio 5000 / RSLogix 5000
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA platforms such as FactoryTalk View, Wonderware, or similar.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols including:
    • EtherNet/IP
    • DeviceNet
    • Profibus
    • Modbus
  • Experience with instrumentation, sensors, VFDs, servo systems, and motor control centers (MCCs).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Rockwell Automation Certified Logix Designer (CLD) certification.
  • Experience with ISA-88 batch control systems.
  • Knowledge of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and ERP integration (SAP preferred).
  • Robot programming experience (FANUC, ABB, KUKA, or similar).
  • Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma experience.
  • Experience within food & beverage, chemical, packaging, life sciences, or other process manufacturing industries.
  • Familiarity with industrial cybersecurity (ICS) best practices.
