Director of Trade Finance โ€“ Supply amp; Marketing
Summary/Overview
The Director of Trade Finance is responsible for overseeing all trade finance activities that support the companyโ€™s supply and marketing operations. This role ensures the efficient structuring, negotiation, and execution of financial instruments and credit facilities that enable global commodity trading, procurement, and sales. In addition to overseeing all trade finance activities, this role is responsible for overseeing the KYC (Know You Customer), Credit and Treasury departments for Supply and Marketing. The position requires deep expertise in trade finance, risk management, and commercial operations within the oil and gas sector.
Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Develop and implement trade finance strategies to support crude oil, refined products, and LNG transactions
  • Structure and negotiate financial instruments including letters of credit, guarantees, prepayment agreements, and receivables financing
  • Assess counterparty credit risk and ensure compliance with internal risk policies
  • Review credit suggestions from SR Credit Analyst for approval
  • Monitor a report all credit outstanding and request collateral when needed
  • Report any credit discrepancies to upper management
  • Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to mitigate financial and operational risks
  • Partner with supply and marketing teams to align financial solutions with commercial objectives
  • Ensure timely execution of trade finance documentation and payment flows
  • Serve as the primary liaison for trade finance matters with internal and external stakeholders
  • Monitor and report on trade finance KPIs, exposure, and performance metrics
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and internal/External audit standards
  • Strong knowledge of financial hedging related to trade finance
  • Ensure all required GUAโ€™s (Give Up Agreements) are executed
  • Monitor margin excess/deficit daily
  • Develop and maintain banking relationships
  • Maintain credit relationships
  • Strong knowledge of KYC documents and current sanctions
  • Review the Lexis Nexis monthly screening report provided by the KYC analyst to identify potential matches (sanctions, PEPs, adverse media, etc.)
  • Review and confirm AP/AR invoices
  • Prepare collateral reports for the bank
  • Monitor and oversee all cash activity for Supply and Marketing including bank funding
  • AR Collections for all divisions of Atlas
  • Manage and motivate a cross-functional team with diverse skill sets
  • Hold a weekly update and educational team meeting
  • Utilize existing professional relationships for collections and credit purposes
Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or related field (MBA or CFA preferred)
  • 10+ years of experience in trade finance, preferably within the oil and gas or commodities sector
  • Strong understanding of trade instruments, credit risk, and structured finance
  • Proven ability to manage complex transactions and cross-functional teams
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and embrace and navigate unexpected challenges or shift task direction is crucial
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Experience with Right Angle, Lexis Nexus, Ascend, D amp;B, CRM, or other systems
  • Strong excel skills
  • Familiarity with energy markets and trading practices
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment
Leader Responsibilities
  • Leading Trade Finance team, which includes Credit Risk Analyst, KYC Analyst and Treasury Analyst
