Apprentices typically earn a wage while learning and may also complete classroom instruction to gain technical knowledge. These roles are common in industries like construction, electrical work, plumbing, and manufacturing. The apprenticeship period varies by trade but often lasts from one to four years. Upon completion, apprentices may receive certification or licensure, allowing them to work as fully qualified tradespeople.

What types of projects and tasks can I expect to work on as a trade apprentice?

As a Trade Apprentice, you'll typically assist experienced tradespeople with a variety of hands-on tasks, such as preparing materials, using basic tools, and following instructions to complete job-related assignments. Your daily duties may include measuring and cutting materials, assembling parts, maintaining equipment, and cleaning up work areas. You'll gain direct exposure to different aspects of the trade, learning both practical skills and industry standards. • Support electricians and installers with staging, preparation, and material handling; collaborate closely with site supervisors and crew leads.
  • Perform basic tasks such as loading materials, handling tools, and maintaining clean, organized work areas.
  • Assist with installation of racks, containment systems, cabling pathways, and related components.
  • Support basic electrical tasks such as pulling wire and mounting boxes under supervision.
  • Operate hand tools and basic power tools safely and per instruction.
  • Follow all job site safety rules and immediately report unsafe conditions; participate in safety meetings and required training.
  • Learn to read and follow basic drawings and supervisor instructions to complete assigned tasks.
  • Travel to project sites and support flexible work schedules as required to meet project milestones.
  • Demonstrate reliability, teamwork, and willingness to learn multiple trades to support project execution.

Qualifications
  • 0–1 year of experience; no prior trade experience required (general labor or construction experience preferred).
  • Interest in developing a career in construction or electrical trades.
  • Strong work ethic, commitment to safety, and ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in fast-paced construction environments; willingness to travel.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds; basic hand tool familiarity preferred.

Education / Certifications

Flexible hours, including nights and weekends, may be required. Physical requirements include bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, climbing, kneeling, balancing, pushing, pulling, and reaching overhead. Must lift at least 50 lbs, raise arms above shoulder level, and perform overhead work for extended periods. The ability to climb and carry ladders (up to 12 ft), navigate stairways, and work at heights up to 90 ft using ladders, scaffolds, or lifts is essential. Employees must access restricted areas (e.g., switchgear rooms, vaults, tunnels, crawl spaces) and wear full PPE.
