Job description

JOB TITLE: Medical Assistant PRN

About Us: At Kansas Spine & Specialty Hospital, we’re passionate about helping people live better, pain-free lives. As a regional leader in the diagnosis and treatment of spine, neck, and joint disorders, we take a collaborative approach to care. Our expert team of surgeons, pain specialists, internal medicine physicians, anesthesiologists, and nurses work together to deliver exceptional, patient-centered care.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

 Essential Functions:

  • Room patients efficiently and accurately, ensuring all necessary information is collected prior to physician or provider evaluation.
  • Collect urine drug screens (UDS) following clinic protocols to ensure proper chain of custody and accurate documentation.
  • Educate patients on prescribed medications, treatment plans, and physician-ordered instructions, ensuring patient understanding and adherence.
  • Input TPI orders for the clinic and track progress, ensuring all orders are submitted correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Follow up on authorizations, communicating with payors or external entities to secure approval for treatments and procedures.
  • Process outgoing referrals, coordinating with specialty offices and ensuring proper documentation and communication with patients.
  • Reschedule patient appointments for follow-ups with Nurse Practitioners (NPs) as needed, maintaining accuracy and patient satisfaction.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Actively supports and upholds the mission and core values of the Hospital.
  • Remains knowledgeable of and follows Hospital policies.
  • Always maintains confidentiality of patient and hospital information.

Experience Required:

  • Certified Medical Assistant required.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fastpaced clinical environment.
  • Experience with EHR systems

Environmental and Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to read and speak English fluently.
  • Cognitive skills for math, reading, computer skills, and communication skills to interact effectively with the public and peers.
  • Vision requirements: near, mid-range, far, and accommodation.
  • Hearing requirements: low, medium, and high-pitch sounds.
  • Minimal up and down activity may be required.
  • Job risks include exposure to computers for 6-7 hours per day with typing activities.
  • Lifting requirements: 20-30 pounds maximum.
