Job Title: Laboratory Tech II

Department: Toxicology

Reports To: Technical Supervisor

Reports: Not applicable

Employment Type: Full-time

Shift: Day to early evening

JOB SUMMARY

The Laboratory Tech II is responsible for specimen processing, test performance and for reporting test results, under the direct supervision of the Technical Supervisor. upon successful training and orientation this position will start early afternoon and work into the early evening.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results

2. Final review and approval of Toxicology reports.

3. Prepares and manages critical Toxicology method materials such as master mixes.

4. Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens

5. Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed

6. Follow the laboratory’s established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance

7. Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical supervisor, clinical consultant, or director

8. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications

9. Understand and adheres to HIPAA policies, procedures and regulations to assure patient confidentiality.

10. Work with other co-workers to ensure completion of all tasks.

11. Store and inventory reagent chemicals and supplies, and recognize needs for additional reagents and supplies.

12. Organize and maintain some clerical work such as MSDS.

13. Administrative duties including excellent customer service to all patients, clients and employees.

14. Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Associates degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory or equivalent education and training. Bachelors Preferred


TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Two years of experience conducting highly complex LC-MS/MS toxicology methods.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Typically Stands for extended period of times
  • Lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Wearing appropriate protective gear: Lab coat, gloves, goggles, and face shield.

POTENTIAL ON-THE-JOB RISKS:

· Exposure to blood borne pathogens

· Exposure to chemical toxicants

· Exposure to medical sharps
