What is a torch?

In the context of jobs, 'Torch' typically refers to a job involving the use or management of the PyTorch machine learning library, rather than a traditional job title. PyTorch is an open-source deep learning framework widely used by researchers and engineers to develop and train neural networks for tasks such as image recognition, natural language processing, and more. Jobs involving 'Torch' may include roles like machine learning engineer, data scientist, or AI researcher, where proficiency with PyTorch is essential. These roles often require strong programming skills and a background in mathematics or computer science. If you are looking for opportunities involving PyTorch, look for titles such as 'PyTorch Developer' or 'Deep Learning Engineer.'

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a machine learning engineer specializing in PyTorch?

To excel as a Machine Learning Engineer using PyTorch, you need a strong background in computer science, mathematics, and machine learning principles, often supported by a relevant degree. Proficiency with the PyTorch library, Python programming, and experience with development tools like Git and cloud platforms are typically required. Problem-solving ability, collaboration, and a passion for continuous learning are vital soft skills in this field. These competencies are crucial for building effective models, staying current with advancements, and working efficiently in innovative AI teams.

What are some common challenges faced by PyTorch developers when collaborating on machine learning projects?

PyTorch developers often encounter challenges related to version compatibility and reproducibility when working in teams. Collaborators may use different library versions or hardware environments, which can lead to inconsistencies in model training and results. Effective communication, clear documentation, and using tools like virtual environments and containerization (e.g., Docker) help mitigate these issues. Additionally, synchronizing code and data changes through version control systems like Git is essential for smooth collaboration.

What is the difference between Torch vs Data Scientist?

AspectTorchData Scientist
Required CredentialsKnowledge of machine learning frameworks, programming skills in Python, experience with AI librariesDegree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or related fields; often includes certifications in data analysis or machine learning
Work EnvironmentTech companies, AI research labs, startups; primarily programming and model developmentBusiness environments, research institutions; data analysis, reporting, and model interpretation
Industry UsageUsed by AI developers, machine learning engineers, researchersEmployed by data analysts, business analysts, data scientists

While Torch is a deep learning framework used primarily by AI developers and machine learning engineers, Data Scientists focus on analyzing data, building models, and deriving insights. Torch provides tools for model development, whereas Data Scientists apply these models to solve business problems. Both roles often collaborate but serve different functions within the AI and data analysis ecosystem.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Welder in the Milford CT area for our Environmental Solutions Client!!

1st Shift

Pay is $25 - $30/hr depending on experience, plus overtime and full benefits.

Can you run a bead on anything they put in front of you?

This is container and equipment repair at a transfer station, not production line welding. Every unit that rolls in is a little different, and you decide how to put it back together.

What you will do:

  • MIG, stick, and flux core welding on containers, roll offs, compactors, hoppers, chutes, and truck bodies
  • Structural steel repair and fabrication, plus aluminum work when it comes through the door
  • Rebuild floors, walls, doors, rails, and hinges on containers that come back beat up
  • Layout, torch and plasma cutting, grinding, and finish work
  • Fabricate brackets, plates, and wear parts to keep equipment in service
  • Work off damage, not off prints, and get the unit back in the rotation

What we are looking for:

  • 4+ years welding in a shop, fleet, container, or fabrication environment
  • MIG and stick, comfortable on steel and aluminum both
  • Structural work plus container or body repair experience
  • Certifications are a plus. Strong hands and real shop time carry just as much weight here
  • Heavy equipment operating experience is a bonus, not a requirement
  • Your own hand tools

Why apply through LaTrae:

  • We place operators, welders, and heavy equipment techs all day, so we know these employers and these roles
  • A direct line to the hiring manager, faster than applying cold
  • Always free to you, the employer pays our fee
  • Confidential, your current employer never knows you are looking
