This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.
You will be responsible for a team that performs stress analysis, internal and external loads analysis, and dynamic analysis for the MK1 Transfer Stage vehicle. Your team supports all products on the vehicle from conceptual design through build and test.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Manage, develop, and grow a team of analysts
  • Engage with external facing customers
  • Communicate and align resources and priorities across multiple subsystems, across vehicles, and across business units
  • Develop methods and processes to improve automation and expedite analysis cycle times
  • Perform iterative structural sizing to support robust product design across all vehicle design phases
  • Support build and test non-conformances
  • Create, review, and approve analysis models and hand calculations
  • Author, review, adjudicate, and/or approve structural analysis documentation, including databooks, drawings, stress reports, test plans, design and analysis standards, and requirements verification
  • Setup and execute technical milestone reviews
  • Execute coupled loads analysis in launch, free flight, and docked configurations

Minimum Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 6+ years of experience in structural analysis
  • Experience with analysis of metallic and composite hardware
  • Experience with fluid product structural analysis, including tanks, tubes, manifolds, bellows, valves, etc.
  • Experience in dynamic environment analysis, including vibroacoustics and shock
  • Experience in space thermal environments
  • Experience with fracture and fatigue analysis
  • Experience with a wide range of analysis tools, including (but not limited to) NASTRAN, FEMAP, ANSYS, Hyperworks, Optistruct, HyperX, ADAMS
  • 2+ years of experience in directly managing engineering staff

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with spacecraft and/or launch vehicles
  • Experience with analysis of additively manufactured parts
  • Experience with topology optimization
  • Experience with PTC Creo and Windchill
  • Experience with material review boards (MRB)
  • Experience across all phases of vehicle development, from concept formulation to build and test
  • Experience with prototype and production vehicles

  • Travel expected up to 15% of the time

Compensation Range for:
WA applicants is $183,807.00 - $257,328.75

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
