Job description

candiceJob Title: Group Benefits and Retirement Advisor

Location: Calgary, AB

Base Salary: $80,000 - $90,000 per year

Position Overview:

Our client, a thriving Calgary-based financial services firm, is looking to add a Group Benefits & Retirement Advisor to their team on a full-time, permanent basis. The organisation brings together investment management, insurance, financial planning (retirement and estate), and group benefits under one roof, giving clients comprehensive solutions built around their specific needs.

Why This Role Might Be Worth Your Time:

  • Growth, not maintenance: This is a newly created position built around an established, well-serviced book of business, you're stepping into relationships that already exist, not building from zero
  • A real path up: This role is positioned to grow into a leadership opportunity as the team scales
  • Skin in the game: Profit sharing is on the table down the road, once you're established in the role
  • You're not on an island: Business development here means following up on warm introductions, not cold calling — leadership brings opportunities to you to close
  • Team and culture fit matter: This is a close-knit, collaborative group that genuinely enjoys working together, with an open-door culture and flexibility in how and where you work
  • Brokerage experience valued: If you've built your career on the brokerage side managing a block of business, this role is designed with that experience in mind

The Opportunity:

This role suits a seasoned professional with strong relationship management instincts and an entrepreneurial drive. Roughly 80% of your time will be spent delivering excellent service to an existing corporate client base, with the remainder focused on closing sales opportunities within that established book of business and your own network.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess corporate clients' group benefits and retirement needs, recommending tailored solutions for comprehensive coverage and long-term security
  • Manage the renewal process with attention to detail, clear communication, and thoughtful analysis to support client decisions
  • Oversee implementation of new group benefit and retirement plans, ensuring smooth, confident transitions
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive engagement and excellent service
  • Respond promptly to client inquiries, plan changes, and adjustments with high-quality support
  • Maintain compliance with regulations and organisational policies
  • Develop educational resources to help clients make informed decisions
  • Track performance metrics to maintain high service standards and meet business goals
  • Build professional networks within the Calgary community to create new opportunities
  • Stay current on industry trends and certifications
  • Document client interactions and plan details in the CRM system
  • Identify opportunities to offer additional solutions to existing clients, focused on their needs
  • Track industry changes and competitor offerings to continually enhance client service
  • Gather and analyse client feedback to drive continuous improvement

Job Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience in group benefits and retirement solutions, including 2-3 years in a brokerage role
  • Valid life insurance license, with industry certifications such as GBA, RPA, or CEBS considered an asset
  • Willingness to travel within Southern Alberta a few times a year to meet with providers
  • Familiarity with the local Alberta market and client base is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain long-term client relationships
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with strong business development skills
  • Skilled in consultative selling and relationship management
  • Strong communication and presentation abilities
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field
  • Proficient with industry software and CRM systems

What Makes You Stand Out:

  • Self-motivated, with a genuine passion for client service
  • Strong project management skills and attention to detail
  • An established network within the Calgary business community
  • Commitment to ongoing professional growth and development
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment
  • A collaborative team player, ready to support colleagues when needed

Compensation:

This role offers a competitive base salary of $80,000 - $90,000 per year (depending on experience), plus a client retention bonus and commissions. Additional perks include a hybrid work model (3 days a week in office), vacation and flex days, full health benefits, and a group RSP plan.

If you're a driven Group Benefits and Retirement Advisor ready to step into a key role with a well-established Calgary firm, we'd love to hear from you! For immediate consideration, apply directly or send your resume to candice@toptiertalentgroup.com today.
