Job description

Food Service – Kitchen Assistant

As Kitchen Assistant, you will assist in the food program of a large childcare center and work directly with the food program director.

Duties include:
  • Assist with the preparation and serving of meals according to established nutrition guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen, dining, and food storage areas.
  • Wash dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment.
  • Receive, organize, and rotate food supplies following food safety standards.
  • Monitor inventory and notify supervisors when supplies need replenishing.
  • Follow all health department regulations and childcare licensing requirements.
  • Support special events and activities involving meal service.
  • Safely transport meals and supplies according to program needs and schedules.
  • Willing to help coworkers, students and parents as needed.
    • The successful candidate will possess:
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to load and unload food supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate a vehicle in various weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass background checks, drug screening (if required), and motor vehicle record review.
  • Food Handler's Permit or willingness to obtain certification.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Dependable, punctual, and professional.
  • Effective working with people of all backgrounds and cultures; our staff speaks over 17 languages; therefore, multilingual is a plus.
  • Must have a good sense of humor & patience.
