Job description

1st shift position

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Tool Room Area Manager has the authority and responsibility to coordinate and direct the efforts of all Tool Room Team Members.  This includes, but is not limited to Tool and Die Makers, Machinists, Apprentices, Team Members assigned to the tool room, to assure that, through tooling programs, product quality and quantity meet or exceed customer expectations.

Also, the Tool Room Area Manager is expected to provide manufacturing and engineering with the necessary operational and technical support to drive continuous improvement in the areas of tool prove out, tool buy off, and all areas of cost savings related to production and manufacturing.  Aid in implementing principles, organizing and collecting data for Midway Engineering Standards, as directed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assigns authority and responsibility to establish the duties and responsibilities for positions reporting directly to the Tool Room Area Manager.
  • Selects, develops, motivates, and trains qualified, skilled team members to assure quality of technical goals.
  • Establishes processes for maintaining tool room tooling, equipment quality and efficiency, and effective preventative maintenance program.
  • Assists in conducting, as required; time, motion, and element studies of assembly process to establish optimum method of performing a task.
  • Supports internal cost savings in the areas of metal savings, process improvements, and overall cost reduction.
  • Participates in the “Supplier Proposed Engineering Changes” (Ford’s SPECS) program, as assigned.
  • Assists in establishing automation techniques for presses, i.e. press heights, die tips, die protection, system lifter, loading aids, etc.
  • Initiates cost savings proposals and tracks progress. Participates with leadership to establish and review methods for new jobs utilizing Kaizen, or equivalent concepts and principles to formulate job instructions for team members.
  • Updates and maintains engineering and tool room records, as required.
  • Assists in creating spreadsheets, graphs, etc. to represent data.
  • Treats all other team members with respect and dignity.
  • Performs other essential functions as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Prefer College Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience.
  2. Prefer completion of a certified four (4) year apprentice program or eight (8) years' experience with “hands on” working knowledge of tools and dies.
  3. Experience in Engineering/Administrative field.
  4. Should be able to compile information and data in a neat orderly fashion.
  5. Computer skills are required, with good math and grammar skills.
