What is a tool die manager?

Tool Die Managers are professionals who oversee the design, production, maintenance, and repair of tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures used in manufacturing processes. They manage teams of tool and die makers, coordinate schedules, ensure quality standards, and collaborate with engineering and production departments to optimize tooling efficiency. Their role is critical in ensuring that manufacturing operations run smoothly and that products meet precise specifications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a tool die manager?

To excel as a Tool Die Manager, you need expertise in tool and die design, manufacturing processes, and a solid background in mechanical engineering, often supported by a relevant degree or apprenticeship. Familiarity with CAD/CAM software, CNC machinery, and quality management systems is typically required, along with certifications like Journeyman Tool & Die Maker.
