Job description

SUMMARY:

The Senior Tooling Engineer is responsible for interfacing between Spectrum Plastics, Minneapolis location and tooling suppliers. This position will be accountable for tooling P&L, meeting agreed upon tool delivery dates and providing metrics to the management team on tool shop performance. In addition, this position will support the sales and estimating functions by providing DFM analyses and technical expertise.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Actively promote and drive a culture of safety within Spectrum Plastics Group.
  2. Responsible for tooling P&L, adherence to tool delivery dates and quality of work for all of Spectrum MN tooling transactions.
  3. Lead continuous improvement efforts for outside tooling sources and provide feedback to management via a supplier scorecard.
  4. Participate in and support the quoting and sales process. Acquire tooling quotes.
  5. Provide Application and NPI DFM analyses.
  6. Effectively measure and drive the reduction of tool lead times.
  7. Lead and /or assist on tool design reviews and modification methodology.
  8. Provide technical tooling expertise and support to all NPI and production sustaining teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Manage all facets of tool procurement including design and construction, reducing the number of mold iterations and samples. Making sure the tooling is built right the first time to agreed upon standards. Take a lead position in driving new technologies with associate teams.
  2. Manage and report tool delivery dates, striving for on-time or early.
  3. Provide engineering and manufacturing recommendations for projects and quotations, improving quote capture rate.
  4. Establish and implement continuous improvements metrics for tooling suppliers and report to management via a scorecard.
  5. Manage and report mold rework schedules to applicable team members.
  6. Provide technical support to Sales and both external and internal customers
  7. Develop common tool design standards to be used both in Minneapolis and Connecticut locations.

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

Excellent organizational and communication skills. Demonstrates a sense of urgency. Embraces Spectrum Plastics core values. 10 Years of tool design experience. 5 Years tool building experience. Proficient at blue print reading, Solidworks and Pro –e. Proficient at Geometric Tolerance interpretation. Mechanical engineering degree preferred.
