Contact : (819) 975-4654, career@nordquantique.ca

About Nord Quantique

At Nord Quantique, we strive to build impactful technology by relentlessly pushing our understanding of quantum science. We are an interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, innovators, builders, and enthusiasts on a mission to make quantum computing a reality. Our quantum processors are designed to reduce errors in quantum computation to facilitate long-term scaling toward fully-fledged quantum computers. We believe it is our responsibility to deliver this transformative technology for the greater good of society.

Located at the heart of the beautiful Eastern Townships region in the province of Quebec, Canada, we develop our technology in the vibrant quantum ecosystem of Sherbrooke. Leaning on more than a decade of vertical integration of quantum hardware, we are leveraging a comprehensive pool of quantum technology and micro-electronic infrastructure to deploy our quantum computing technology

Salary : $74,000 – $88,000
Benefits :
5 weeks of vacation, group insurance (including dental care), virtual care, lifestyle spending account (all available after 3 months of service)

Our current needs

Nord Quantique’s device R&D and early production efforts have been supported through internal work and partnerships at the Université de Sherbrooke’s 3iT cleanroom. This approach has proven very successful, allowing us to rapidly test different prototypes and develop process flows to unlock state-of-the-art performance, but it will not support the next phase of our roadmap.
We are now establishing full nanofabrication capability at C2Mi, as one of only two partners engaged with C2Mi and its new Quantum Lab (LINQ). Our objective is ambitious and clear: by 2028, C2Mi must operate as a fully production-ready platform for Nord Quantique, delivering superconducting nanodevices that meet or exceed current 3iT performance, with an emphasis on reliably, repeatably, and at increased throughput.
To launch this critical initiative, we are seeking an experienced Nanofabrication Technologist to join Nord Quantique’s growing C2Mi Nanofabrication team. This individual will play a central role in bringing LINQ to operational readiness, with hands-on involvement in tool acceptance, commissioning and day-to-day operations. Once stable processes of record are established, they will contribute by benchmarking and optimizing nanofabrication workflows to improve device yield, performance, and reliability, supporting the transition from R&D to early production.
Key Responsibilities

  • Act as primary point of contact for multiple mission-critical cleanroom tools.
  • Contribute to tool acceptance, commissioning, and process bring-up for assigned cleanroom equipment, delivering stable baseline recipes with documented characterization.
  • Develop, integrate, benchmark, and optimize nanofabrication processes for superconducting devices, driving yield, performance, and manufacturability, with following characterization and metrology plans.
  • Work closely with C2Mi technicians to ensure the smooth running of tools and carry out day-to-day operation using the tools for production runs.
  • Provide regular progress updates to Nord Quantique’s Head of Nanofabrication, proactively identifying risks and proposing mitigation strategies
  • Contribute to the superconducting circuit fabrication roadmap by identifying performance and yield limiters, capability gaps, prioritized experiments and CapEx requirements needed to enable scalable manufacturing.

Success in this role depends not only on technical guidance, but on building trust, fostering open communication, and sustaining a shared sense of purpose both within the team and with C2Mi staff. The selected candidate will operate within a highly dynamic environment and will have the opportunity to shape both the technical direction and team structure of a key component of Nord Quantique’s roadmap.

Education and experience requirements:

  • Diploma of College Studies (DEC) in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Quantum Information, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience developing and optimizing cleanroom processes in Micro & Nanofabrication facilities.
  • Proven project management experience in an academic and/or industrial setting.
  • Hands-on experience working in industrial semiconductor manufacturing setting.

Sought expertise and knowledge:
Core Expertise:

  • Strong foundation in nanofabrication process development and troubleshooting in a cleanroom environment.
  • Experience with tool acceptance and operation.
  • Working knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing best practices, including process qualification, change control, documentation, and run rules.
  • Demonstrated experience in process optimization to improve yield, device performance, and manufacturability.
  • Experience with lot/sample tracking and traceability using MES and/or structured travelers, with disciplined data capture.
  • Experience managing quality events (deviations/nonconformances), applying SPC, and performing root-cause analysis (e.g., 5-Why, fishbone, DOE) with corrective/preventive actions.
  • Experience in cross contamination prevention and control.

Preferred:

  • Understanding of design concepts and workflow for superconducting circuits.
  • Experienced with some of the following cleanroom techniques: Lithography (E-beam or Photolithography), Metal deposition (e.g. E-beam, Sputter), Etching (ICP, RIE), Wet Chemistry Processing (Acid & Bases).
  • Experience working with some cleanroom metrology tools (ellipsometry, profilometry, 2-terminal measurements, CD SEM).
  • Experience ramping up from R&D to pilot or volume production.

Sought profile:

  • Proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects and aligning execution with evolving priorities.
  • Diplomatic approach to working with external partners.
  • Highly organized, meticulous and efficient with a process-orientated mindset.
  • Eagerness to learn new things
  • Commitment to advancing quantum computing and building meaningful technology.

We are committed to building an inclusive team that draws on a wide range of experiences and are mindful that strengths can take many forms. We place value on initiative, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset, regardless of formal background.
