Position description
University Extension is conducting a continuous recruitment search for experienced professionals to serve as potential instructors for the new Financial Literacy in K-12 Education Certificate Program. We seek individuals with deep expertise in California education policy, finance, and administration across the entire K-16 pipeline.
The K-16 Educational Administration and Finance Instructor will lead the design and instructional materials for the 15-unit certificate program across the K-16 educational pipeline (K-12, Community Colleges, and UC/CSU). This role requires deep subject matter expertise and an unwavering commitment to embedding equity as a core principle.
Courses are 8-10 weeks in length, averaging 7 teaching hours per week, and are offered online (synchronous on Friday evenings or Saturday and/or Sunday) and in-person at UCR Extension. Courses delivered in-person at UCR Extension and online are typically scheduled on Friday evenings, Saturdays and Sundays.
Salary Range: Instructor compensation is $650 per unit. An additional course development fee of $100 per unit is payable for the first time an instructor teaches in each modality.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• K-16 Integration & Accuracy: Ensure all course content accurately addresses the distinct administrative, financial, and legal frameworks governing California's K-16 systems, including comparative models (e.g., LCFF vs. PFE) and cross-segmental policy impacts.
• Instructional Design: Apply established instructional design models to create outcomes-based learning experiences, including measurable objectives, case studies, diverse assignments, and robust assessments suitable for a higher education audience.
• Equity Focus: Intentionally integrate principles of equity, adequacy, and efficiency into all materials, specifically examining how resource allocation impacts student access and outcomes across the K-16 spectrum.
• Resource Curation: Identify and curate high-quality instructional resources, including policy documents, case law, financial reports, and academic texts relevant to both K-12 and higher education.
• Provide instruction in accordance with the established instructional agreement, curriculum outlines, and class schedule provided by University Extension.
• Communicate teaching objectives and specific learning outcomes to students, and clearly outline the grading policies of the course.
• Work in conjunction with collaborative partners and subject matter experts to ensure that course information is current.
• Participate in scheduled orientations, meetings, and mandatory training programs by UCR's established deadlines.
• Create course shell, maintain timely and accurate academic records within the learning management system, and submit timely and accurate documentation as well as student grades as outlined in the instructional agreement
• Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Advanced degree in Business, Education, Administration or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of strategic planning, resource allocation, and finance in multiple segments of the California K-16 education system.
• Experience with California K-12, community college, and/or UC/CSU finance models and legal frameworks.
• Experience in budgeting, grant writing, or financial oversight.
• Experience with computer-aided instructions and learning management systems (i.e., CANVAS).
• Five years of related work experience.
• Proficiency in English suitable to the position.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, organizational skills.
• Ability to provide instruction in-person and online.
• Ability to successfully complete a background check prior to start date.
• Authorization to work in the United States.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience teaching adult learners.
• Preference will be given to UCR Graduate students who are ABD, UCR graduates, and UCR Lecturers
• Ability to teach a wide range of courses in the field of expertise.
• Experience with Curriculum development and course design.
• Proven record of contributions to a supportive team environment
• Experience teaching online courses using Canvas.
